daz Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011
best encore ive ever seen at a gig was squeeze supporting the tubes at hammersmith odeon with both bands all together on stage doing baba oreilly!
Was that the 1979 gig where..... there was a last minute announcement made to the crowd about a delay because Squeeze drummer Gilson (The Bear) Lavis had been taken ill. The audience were told Squeeze would be playing with a replacement drummer, Namely Tubes percussionist and former member of (Latin sound) Santana, James Mingo Lewis. Apparently Lewis played with Latin flourishes totally inaproriate to the music Squeeze played, but was still sort of wierdly mesmerizing, like a slow motion car crash ? Quote
Shaggy Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011
Check out Glenn Tibrook on bass, he doesnt do a bad job considering he's not really a bass player
Saw Glen play in Pontardawe last sunday; played 6 and 12-string guitar, a big electro-acoustic bass, ukelele, keyboards (synth and a little hand-pumped reed organ), percusion on one song; also used an i-tablet for a couple of "audience-interactive" numbers. First set solo, and the second with two other musicians, swapping eachothers gear. Looking much older, but the voice stronger than ever and put on a hell of show; some excellent "alternative" arrangements of the Squeeze hits. Quote
flyfisher Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 909 is on our covers set list and that's nothing like the original bass line - which is not necessarily a bad thing of course, but I'm just saying. Quote
