Mr Bassman Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Don't know if this has been posted before. Pick Up Comparison Quote
bassace Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) Very interesting, Keith. They all sound quite good and I wouldn't want to stick my neck out without a bit more listening but initially I'm quite disappointed at the sound of the Ehrlund. Quite muddy, I thought. Mr Bassman Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 Hi Roger, the DPA sounds nice. I've just got round to installing the APTflex on my Hungarian bass. Sounds very natural just like the bass. Only tried it in the house so far, might get to use it next Tuesday Quote
Clarky Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 To my ears the DPA (unsurprisingly, being a straight mic, rather than piezo/contact pickup) sounds much the nicest, woodiest and faithful. That said the others all sound pretty good to me, with a slight preference for the Fishman Full Circle and the the least impressive being the slightly distant/echo-ey sounding Bassbalsereit. If it weren't for the risk of picking up other instruments (not good in my up-to-14-piece band) I would go for a DPA on my Kolstein Quote
bassace Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Yes, Keith and Clarky, the DPA is great but has its limitations with regard to feedback (although it's a lot better than most) and you'll get the best out of it with a powered speaker. Or, better still, front of house. But it doesn't have plug and play convenience. Quote
