paddy109
Going to consider learning how to bow but I am mystified by different types of rosin there is to buy. I am using innovation super silvers and planning to buy a cheap bow from ebay unless someone has one for sale (see wanted items on classifieds). What would be the most appropriate rosin to use and why? Any help gratefully recieved.
TPJ
Nymans is a good one, although bowing super silvers might be a task
BassBus
Nymans is a very common rosin but Pops Bass Rosin is a bit more sticky than Nymans. Pots of either aren't that expensive so you could try both and see what suits you best.
Owen
You can also use bog standard violin rosin. It is not common practice but entirely acceptable. If the silver slaps have a kind of plastic coating on them then they will not bow nicely at all. Ever.
paddy109
Nymans it is then. Hopefully the super silvers will bow as I have only just bought them as a replacement for whackers. The innovation site suggests these can be bowed (at least that was my understanding when I bought them). Thanks.
thisnameistaken
I've got Silver Slaps which I believe have the same surface as the Super Silvers and I use Pops rosin. With plenty of rosin you can certainly get the bow to bite just fine but the sound - from the G in particular - is not pleasant! In thumb position it's positively horrific. marvin spangles
I use Nymans and Pops. Pops is my preferred.
paddy109
Well the super silvers certainly do bow but I am unsure how good the sound really is - need to practice more and see how it sounds when I get together with the band! the sound cant be too bad as the dog is not howling.
