wateroftyne Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Hi all I need a new hardcase for a short flight in a couple of weeks. What's better? Hiscox or SKB... or none of the above? Ta! Quote
Muppet Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 For the price, I would always recommend the Hiscox (Soundslive do them for £60). I have travelled many times with one and even with it being checked in to the hold I've never had problems. I think SKB supply Fender with their pre 2008 models and basing it on the one I have, I'd not let it anywhere near an airport, given that it is so flimsy. Quote
obbm Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I took a bass in a Hiscox to Texas and back in the hold. No problems. I've had that case for 10 years now and it's still as good as new. Quote
john_the_bass Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 apparently the new 2008 fenders are supplied in the new 2008 SKB. if it's anything like the fender skb my p bass is in, i'd have another hiscox. Quote
99ster Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Hiscox every time - it's what I put all my hideously expensive vintage basses in (original cases go in the loft). Wouldn't use anything else. Quote
wateroftyne Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 Cheers all! I went with the Hiscox in the end, but not before I bought an SKB (I'd already ordered it). The SKB felt like a toy, so I ordered the Hiscox... what a difference! Solid as a rock. I like it so much, I'm going to order another. So there. Quote

Modulus use a customised SKB case which good but the Hiscox is still a vastly better design and in many way superior. I'm sure Modulus would use them save for the cost of shipping over to the USA which would greatly inflate the final cost. But alas the US manufacturers are on the SKB band wagon. Just some thoughts... Ciao Ian Quote
stingrayfan Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 And they're actually made in the UK by the looks of things. I didn't think anything was made in the UK anymore, apart from sandwiches. Quote

coasterbass Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 A bit late i know, but I use Pelican cases for serious (ie. plane hold) travel. They are absolutely indestructable, you can cut the internal foam to suit any bass which means nothing moves around inside, they have wheels, and they have pressure valves on the side in case of any in-flight nastiness. The US army use them to transport weapons, and do air-drops with kit inside these!! http://pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1750 http://pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1720 They crop up on ebay quite a bit, and at least you know they'll arrive safely if you buy internationally!! Muppet Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Who makes Ricky cases? They seem pretty indestructable too. Quote
bass_ferret Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I thought molded cases is what you get if you leave them in the garage for too long Quote

Three of my feet are pushed right in despite being very careful with everything I own, not just my pride and joy. I've seen mention elsewhere about the Ric cases feet issues, I think it was on the Ric forums. Steve. Quote
