Those were the days before the t'interweb when I thought, who is that tall lanky guy on bass? If he can make, surely I can? :)

Only if you got an old Stingray without any frets

Honestly - I think it was because my bass was crap I couldn't emilate him! Damn this pesky capitalist system that rewards money!
(ps - Think I had a 70s P-bass in the 80s!)

How decent was the guitarist though? Some really cool licks!

Who was he? Paul Young had some monster players through his band. Proper.

I saw PY and the Royal Family (as the band were called) on the No Parlez tour, Pino is one of the reasons I play bass.

What were you saying? Eh something about bass? I was a bit distracted.

By the way those backing singers can't sing for peanuts.................I wonder how they ever got the job?

I used to do a late night club residency in the West End backing them two,
six nights a week for about a year.
Delightful Hooligans..... :)

This post reminded me of seeing Jools Holland and the Millionaires with the Fabulously Wealthy Tarts opening for Nine Below Zero at the Hammersmith Odeon. Thought I'd have a search for Jools with the FWT but found this interesting clip instead:

Talking of Pino, this track has got to be my fave fretless sound i've heard on record right here......... :) I've always loved this mega bass line......
Quite an aggressive style on this example. Nice to hear fretless used this way.

Ah The Tube for those of us of a certain age it was a real Friday night ritual to watch while you were Doing your hair before going out. (hey it was all spikey hair, precision cut flat tops or big quiffs back then even for the lads :) ) Great show, never bettered.

Big +1 for the musical content although the presentation used to annoy me even back then - hate to think how I'd react now as an old curmudgeon!

Bit off topîc but this is Paul with a Dutch bass-player who does a great job...
Pity that the voice is gone..

Oh so true

A real shame about Paul Young. Without the video you would think it was a cover by someone else. Good bass playing on this. I transcribed this song for some cool fretless playing a while ago. Tasty.
