Didn't even know they did a Waves card for it! How's that working out? Sadly no mixing desk at all for me still - it's been a two man crew all year on my current gig (me as TM/tech, and our FOH engineer) but heading out on a proper touring run for three weeks with a full team, so I can just wear my TM hat. Just wrapped two days of production rehearsals, currently 2:20am on the tourbus having a wild night with my laminator and a pack of chocolate hobnobs on our way to Nottingham Rock City. It's all glamour, this job 🤣 Edited October 3, 2024 by mike257 Quote
VTypeV4 Posted October 3, 2024 Author Posted October 3, 2024 They did a couple of variations - the other (Y56K) is in the DM at the studio although the actual differences between them other than a few details, I'm yet to discover. 😀 There's some really nice things in them including a lovely multi-tap delay, a reverb plus a few different comps, EQs and limiters too - all are useful, sound great and are easy enough to use plus the setup isn't quite as convoluted as the TC cards in the 02R. The little Mackie CR-X monitors are now in their correct position and sounding lovely. 🔉 I love the pictures, the first two being 'proper rock n roll' pics with gear and all the associated fun stuff but the bottom one is the reality. Absolutely golden! Who are you out with? 😀 Quote
mike257 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Well, after a lovely tour in October with a full crew of top-notch people, we're currently back to the two-man setup on a European support run for a few weeks. After migrating the band on to IEMs for the UK headline tour, where we had FOH and monitor engineers with a dLive at both ends, I've had to figure out how we make that work in our stripped down setup to keep the production value up for the lads on stage. We're back on my SQ5 for this tour and we're squeezing every last drop of it's capabilities out of it now. Freed up a few buses in our FOH engineer's existing showfile and I'm now running four stereo IEM mixes and four wedge mixes from an iPad (whilst tour managing and guitar teching 🤣). Not too many compromises had to be made, all things considered. We've managed to keep the on stage shout mics integrated for comms between band and crew, and I have a spare IEM system fed from a matrix that I can send any mix to if we have an RF issues on someone's frequency. My IEMs are fed by the solo bus that the FOH and I are sharing between us for mid-show listening. It's taken some shuffling around but it's working really well and is pretty dialled in after the first week of shows 1 Quote
VTypeV4 Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 Hey Mike, sorry I missed your reply here.. 😃 Looks like you've been doing some 'proper' gigs! ❤️ I'm just about to finish this tour with the usual Kirk Brandon / Spear of Destiny lot but I was also draughted in to mix Richard Jobson / The Skids too. It's been great with some fun and games along the way so will post pics when I get chance. On the subject of the dLive, there's literally nothing not to like and the deeper I dig, the more I find. I've been using the 1176, LA2A, DBX and Bus Comp models as they're very good plus the ability to do the whole HPF sidechain routine on the main L/R completes the picture. 👍 1 Quote

The 16T is a favourite, does lovely things to drums and bass. The new V2 software looks great too, yet to have any hands on time with it but the "Actions" functionality is appealing to me (as a big Digico macro nerd) so I'm keen to have a proper dig in to that. We've got an S3000 out on our current tour that has the V2 software and the new RackUltraFX card fitted and our FOH is loving it. Currently on another support run, this time working our way round arenas in the UK. Got our monitor engineer back for this one, so I've ditched the iPad and I'm doing one less job, just tour managing and looking after backline world. Two shows left before I'm done for Christmas! Couple of behind-the-scenes pics here, and our FOH also sneakily caught a clip of me warming up the drum kit in the O2 Arena last week 🤣 VID-20241207-WA0009.mp4 Edited December 17, 2024 by mike257 Quote
VTypeV4 Posted December 20, 2024 Author Posted December 20, 2024 That's a truly proper gig! 🤣🥰 Fantastic stuff there, Mike - very cool indeed! 😀 Various pics from up and down the country. Only two Yamaha consoles out of nearly 30 shows - Midas and A&H more than everything else put together.. Quote
VTypeV4 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 02R96! Whoops! I picked two up cheap so had the wonderful repairman, Kev make one good one. V2 O/S too! 😃 1 Quote
VTypeV4 Posted Sunday at 19:42 Author Posted Sunday at 19:42 I'm very happy to report that the new 02R96 is working out very well indeed - I used it 5 nights consecutively last week with no hiccups, faults or drama which is nothing but positive and very much like it's predecessor. In terms of use, it's exactly what I expected, somewhere between the DM1000 and the DM2000 of which they all have a lot in common. It's much easier to navigate than the 1000 as it has more real time, dedicated controls plus the greater spacing between all buttons, knobs and switches gives a less cramped and cluttered feel - especially when you need to get something quickly. It's not quite as fancy as the 2000 with no illuminated scribble strip or real-time counter but I can lift it by myself and is (as Yamaha no doubt intended) a decent compromise between the two. In the picture below, to the right, you can see the side of a Behringer Wing well piloted by friend and fellow studio-owner, Mark. The Yamaha was used to mix 21 channels of the band / orchestra whilst the Wing was under 'Theatre Control' cueing 28(ish?) channels of radio mics, hand-helds and sound fx. The latter not being a job for the faint hearted. As for my old ex-ITV 02R, it went to former apprentice and friend Phil where it'll see use as part of his home setup. I trained him on these old Yamahas so he knows the machine almost as well as I do. Hopefully it'll keep him inspired and offer the same consistent and reliable service it did me. I'm really pleased it went to a good home. 1 Quote
