Flanker Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 (edited) Well guys I managed to play along to Dusty Springfield ' The Look of Love ' today !! I even managed a few notes in time with the record!! 'So what ?' I hear you say . Well its the first time in seven months I've managed anything like it since my stroke!! My fingers on my right hand will not extend at all, so the big problem has been keeping them from damping the strings.Yesterday I tried a few things and managed to strap up my three fingers and just play with my forefinger, I reckon it'll work. Take months if not years to play anything decent but who cares, I'm on my way!!!!Awesome. I played for thirty odd years and didn't think I'd ever play again. Never say never eh? I'll put a video up as promised but in spite of the bass being up pretty loud you can only hear the song ? Thankful ; Thankful ; Thankful ;Thankful ; Thankful ; Thankful ; Thankful................ Lfalex v1.1 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Excellent stuff. Keep up the good work! A stroke has to be among a musician's worst nightmares. You have my utmost respect for having the bravery to tackle it head on. All the best for a speedy and continued recovery.. Alex. Quote
Legion Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 That's what I like to hear - never give in and fight hard. Keep going Flanker Quote

chrismuzz Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 This has pretty much made my day. Well done mate the level of dedication you've shown with practically re-learning the bass shows how much it means to you, and im really happy to see you still able to do something you love. Quote
molan Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Fantastic news Steve - I told Eithne to get a bass out of mothballs the other day but didn't think you'd be able to play quite so quickly Quote
Grand Wazoo Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Very good news. It is always good to hear of a fellow bass player being on the way to recovery after an health issue. Keep it up. Quote
Doctor J Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Delighted for you, good work, fella! Quote
molan Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Good to see you chose a P bass to get started on as well, with that forefinger technique you'll be on Jamerson territory very soon! Quote
Dad3353 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Nice choice of repertoire, lad; well done, you have good taste. If you keep this up, you'll soon be belting out 'Superstition' better than me, and I've had no stroke..! Quote
gary mac Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 That's really excellent news, chuffed for you. Quote
Noisyjon Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Good news Flanker and keep up the good work. All the best, Jon Quote
Flanker Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 Thanks for your kindness everyone. I've done two videos - one with the Nordy P and one with the Skjold. I had to have a go on the Skjold as it's a lovely bass and was feeling left out ! I say videos- its Eithne with her iphone! I thought I was pretty average before the stroke! I was Victor Wooten compared to now!!! HaHa Quote
vmaxblues Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Well done mate, power of positive thought, you can move mountains, keep at it.... Quote
