The one & only time I've been completely blown away by a bassist using a Precision was watching Gordon Rowley of Strife.

Indeed anything by Jamerson- who says you have to change your strings every few months? Think I`ll keep mine for 17 yrs!!..... and never clean them.

Mind you , dont think I have 17yrs left!!

I'm not keen on Precisions :) , plenty of other songs but AFAIR it's the only time I've stood & watched a bassist with a Precision & gone :) Bloody Hell!!
Not so much a matter with others of being impressed or otherwise - just "Yeah - erm - OK".

Here's one from John Scofield featuring the awesome Andy Hess on bass.

Interestingly not a lot of my fave music was done on P basses!
One lovely clanky/thumpy example up ther for me is:

TM Stevens is really on form on this one from the late 70's.

This is cool! one of my fave soul/disco tracks.
Replying to an earlier post, I also watched Strife in the late 70's they were excellent. I did hear Gordon Rowley was ill but I didn't know he had passed away, how sad.
Best bit of precision playing i've heard was when I watched Peter "Mars" Cowling do a short bass solo when he was in Pat Travers Band, it was 1977 at Leicester Uni.......stunning!

Pops Popwell..altho I think he also added a J pickup near the bridge... not that you'd hear that in too many recordings, IMO.

Chuck Rainey always favour a P-bass config, IIRC...in the early days.

Steve Hanley, a fantastic P-player.

I had the fortune to discuss his tone on this, and some other Fall records by e-mail a couple of years back...and it's P all the way!

Hmm, first ones that spring to mind are

"London Calling" from the Clash, and a live version of "Zoot allures" with (I think) Scott Thunes, can't remember which Zappa album though, really meaty tone and solid playing all the way.

Edit: It's on "Does humour belong in music?"

This one. It's probably my favourite too. Although I prefer the version on Make a Jazz Noise Here.
