From mixer channel "insert" to interface for recording?

Am I right in thinking that I can us a TRS splitter cable to take a pre-eq/effects/fader signal from my Yamaha MG166CX desk straight into my Alesis io 26 to record our live performances?

Last night, I took our two large diaphram condensers and stuck them at the back of the room, and while that was ok, we obviously lack the clarity and control of a direct source!

yep you can indeed..... just use the send on a 'Y' inset cable

Remember to try use line in on the interface to bypass the pre-amps
