Musicman20 Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 These basses are seriously good value in the US, and seem to have many players swayed to Carvin for a boutique jazz at a low-ish price. Has anyone tried one? http://www.carvinworld.com/isa/process/getGuitarsByModelID.php?model=sb5000 White/Rosewood/Tort....yum. Weird horn, but I kind of like it. Quote
Killerfridge Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 I've only heard positive things about them, and I would love to be able to get one made, but I fear that doing so in the UK would make their price point much less attractive. Quote

Musicman20 Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 I had a world with the distributor, they are around £1300 including the Carvin hardcase...not really competing with the Fender Deluxe etc, but much cheaper than the Sadowsky basses, and the Carvin's are built to to order in the USA Quote
geoffbassist Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I love the look of these and the guys on Talkbass rave about them. Quote
Schnozzalee Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I've wanted one for a while but have never had the money to hand for one, saw one in marcus miller esque finish wandering around London one time but was in a hurry for the train. I love the Joe Walsh Carvin Signature too!! Quote
Musicman20 Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) FYI Im going to email the distributors. So far ive told them I personally think £1300 is pricing them out of the market they are supposed to be in. I think they understand where I am coming from, but I guess our ridiculous VAT and import duties ruin it. If we are looking at £1100, then maybe its getting closer to what they should be selling for. I'll email tomorrow and see if there is any haggling to be done...they are brand new to Carvin (the dealers) so maybe they could arrange a deal. Otherwise, Ill have to walk away as it starts to get into 'normal superjazz' prices. Edited November 27, 2011 by Musicman20 Quote
Hahabass Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 It really depends what you intend to do with it. In a Death Metal setting, maybe not so good, but for most styles/genres, you'll love it. 1 Quote
Killerfridge Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 (edited) Man, weird to see my own reply being the first response on this dead thread (as someone who's not exactly the most prolific of posters) Edited May 6, 2024 by Killerfridge Quote
Musicman20 Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 I never did get one! They looked great. Wish Kiesel would get them made and distribute in the UK. Quote
Schnozzalee Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 (edited) I think it's called the Kiesel JB5 now, with 70s pickup spacing. The original Carvin was 60s pickup spacing (I believe)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MDJfA-uSe4&t=63s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puB1ShoQd20 Edited May 7, 2024 by Schnozzalee 2 Quote
