Jimmyp28
Ok need some help, for some time I have been searching for the Wal sound without getting the a Wal, due to money reasons of course. So I have been set for a while on getting some Wal clones from SGD and a ACG filter preamp which i believe will give me that tone. And then I saw the Dual coils by Nordstrand and now its caused loads of Gas problems what to go for? So what do people think? Any one think the dual coils with a ACG will work well? Or maybe just go for the Wal clones? I need help people.
nugget
tone comes 50% from pickups, 20% from strings,20% from technique, and 10% from the actual bass - go for the nordies in the acg

Ou7shined
I think the Nordys plus the ACG pre would make an awesome combo .... but it would be a severely modern tone and probably not what the OP is after.
BassBod
I think the main thing is just use big fat humbuckers..and have their internal coils wired in series. Go for the darker/honky tone, then use whatever filter type circuit you can get. A lot of the Wal sound is those huge peculiar pickups (especially the older Pro basses without the variable filter gubbins).
