sockdeluxe_mikey
Simple one, this - I seem to have trouble with my strings not sounding even enough. I understand it's not going to be 100pc perfect, but I have trouble with things such as quiet D and loud G strings. Doesn't seem to be related to set up. Who has some good suggestions for good sets of even bass strings? Thanks
ahpook
have you tried status strings ? i'm a recent convert - i bought a set for my status bass (keep it in the family ) and liked them so much i'm changing all my basses over to them. very even and punchy across the board. sockdeluxe_mikey
I haven't, actually. Which set are you using?
Lozz196
First off, what bass is it you`re using? If it`s a bass with a Precision type pickup, start off by adjusting that, to see if heightening under the D solves the problem. If it`s not a Precision type pickup, has the bass had a proper set-up? That can make a difference as well. The playability of an incorrectly set up bass may not be bad, but it`s things like this that can be affected more. observer
I'm quite happy already with DR neons on my G&L2000 . Very nice touch and to my ear better balanced than my previous set on D'addarios.
noelk27
Assuming it isn't set up or pickup placement/adjustment/performance, as has been previously stated/suggested, then isn't what you're actually looking for an unbalanced set? If the D and G strings are quiet then what you need is more mass in those strings or less mass in the E and A strings.

[/quote] +1 if you haven't done so already it might be worth trying something like Ernie Ball Slinkies which have a slightly heavier G and D string (eg 50/70/85/105 or 45/65/80/100). Or buy a couple of sets with different gauges and mix and match your own hybrid set.
ezbass
Another vote for lighter bottom/heavier top as found with D'Addarios and Ernie Balls. With judicious set up and pickup alignment I get good results from my preffered 100-80-65-45 gauge.

alanbass1
TI flats have great balance, but you might not take to flats if you are used to playing roundwounds
