Beefyeggo Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) Hi.. Further to my earlier 'Short Scale' post I am pretty sure I'll have to buy new. I've been doing a trawl of the internet looking at stock levels and prices and two suppliers interest me. Has anyone ever bought from Thomann or Gear4music? Pleased to hear any positive or negative comments - like all the rest of you I can't afford to make any mistakes... Obviously don't say anything libellous but if there is a supplier you feel I would do well to not use I'd be pleased to hear. Equally if you've had good service and would buy again from them I would also like to know. Rob Edited December 5, 2011 by Beefyeggo Quote
discreet Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I've always had good service from Thomann. No complaints. Quote
LiamPodmore Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Bought my first bass and amp from Gear4Music. Was delivered on time, without any problems whatsoever, and their pricing is good. I would definately buy from them again. Liam Quote
EssentialTension Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Good service here from Thomann too and they have a 30-day refund policy. Quote
Big_Stu Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Another one for Thomann, but they take a bit of convincing not to send junk-mail & emails. Quote
bottlebassman Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Just bought a EH big muff pedal from gear4music last week, excellent quick service. Quote
wateroftyne Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I've had good experiences with Thomann. Quote
BigAlonBass Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I've bought loads of gear (large and small, and not just Bass-orientated) from Thomann over the past six years or so, and have never had the slightest problem with them. In fact, at times, I wonder how the hell they get the stuff to me so quickly! I would use them with confidence. Quote
TheGreek Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Good things to say about both - I've bought a Saxophone, a bass case and a pair of Congas from G4M - a couple of cases and a strap from Thomann. Both organisations deliver within a couple of days, never had a problem with either. I would recommend both.. Quote
Lozz196 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Our band bought a couple of wedge monitors from G4M. Arrived when they should have, very decently priced items too (their own branded gear). Quote
Chairleg Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 No problems buying from G4M. Quick delivery and fair prices. Quote
Fozza Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Bought a couple of things from Gear4music over the last few months (EHX Bass Big Muff and a ukelele). Both arrived on time and with no issues. Only ever bought a pickup from Thomann (DiMarzio Model 1) but again, there were no problems at all. Quote
thebrig Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) Yep! Thomann & Gear4Music are the ones that I would recommend too. But I would also like to throw http://www.soundslive.co.uk/ into the mix as well. Just a suggestion! If you can find a second hand SX short-scale Jazz or Precision, I think you will be very impressed with them. They are quite hard to come by in the UK, but I think that the Jim Deacon basses are made by the same company, and sell for around £130/150 in the UK. You get a lot of bass for the money! bremen Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I've bought lots from Thomann and have nearly always had great service. In particular, an amp broke down and they arranged for a courier to collect it and replaced it with a new one very quickly. Only problem was one time I ordered several (20+ various bits and pieces of studio gear) items and one was out of stock, they held the entire order til they got stock. But by the time that happened, something else was out of stock so had to wait again! A bit of communication here would have helped, but they are very, very busy and emails often don't get replies for some time. Overall though, no problem. Also try DV247.com ; they too offer an extended warranty on everything, are UK based and I think they'll price match Thomann. Quote
spinynorman Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Thomann give a 3-year warranty on everything, regardless of what the manufacturer does. So when one of our PA speakers croaked after 2 years they arranged a courier, took it back to Germany, repaired it and sent it back. Took a couple of weeks, but it was free. That's something to take account of if there's not much difference on price. Quote
thisnameistaken Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Bought stuff from both Thomann and G4M. Both turned the orders around quickly and items arrived without problems. Also, there was none of the 'Let's pretend we've got this in stock and ship it next April when the container arrives' bollocks you get from some online retailers. Quote
