Clarky Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 The lady single in Rattlin Bone, Karena Kelly, has a second single out on 12th December. Again featuring yours truly on bass, its my first attempt at Northern Soul. Recorded with my '63 Precision. Also features some top quality musicians (trombone and trumpet- Danny Flam, saxes- Ron Bertolet, Guitar and Organ- Ed Brayshaw) and produced by RB front man Wily Bo Walker. KiOgon Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Like it like it like it - - - Great solid old P sound although IMO the bass is there at the roots but fizzles out/gets a bit muffled on the walks - to my ears on my PC with above average speakers (Creative T100). Have to agree with Luke ^^^ could have been mixed better. I know I know everyone's a F'ing sound engineer Terrific1st attempt, you nailed that Northern Soul groove, (played it twice before commenting), the Midnight Walk bass comes through much clearer. Cheerz, John Quote
Clarky Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 Thanks John! I much prefer Midnight Walk, both musically and performance-wise (as I had never recorded fretless before, so am quite proud of that), but I gather from Karena that the radios stations etc are pretty keen on Temptation Eyes. LukeFRC Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011
Wasn't mixed by me! Otherwise it would have been higher
Sorry, that came across as negative- I love it- and the second song too. But in my listening to northern soul and other soul it borrows of the motown trick of sticking the P bass sound really high in the mix. but nice playing- it's just been mixed more like a pop song- nice bit on the 'come on love me, come love me' bit Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Liking that a lot - both vids. Thanks for posting Clarky. Quote
gary mac Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Crackin' pair of tunes Clarky. Good work. I'll hook the puter up to my hi fi tomorrow, so that I can hear it properly. Quote
daz Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 (edited) Wigan Casino ? What you mean you've gone all 32 inch bags, with Segs on your brogues, and wearing a 'dancing vest' ? I remember some of the older lads round our way used to go back in its early 1970s heydays. I use to see their patches and beer towel kecks etc. They used to write cryptic graffiti words on the wall such as 'Cloud 9' or Temptations' ? Which my young brain didnt understand. Cat Burrito Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Good tune, the bass comes through nicely on my speakers Quote
ShergoldSnickers Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 The P bass comes across like a block of buttered granite on my main system. Gorgeous. The PJ is more laid back but that is precisely what the song required. Very, very good Clarky. Quote
Clarky Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 Thanks chaps! Buttered granite sounds good Unfortunately Daz I barely understood a word of your post and I certainly don't have a young brain! You probably had to be there Quote
