geoffbassist Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 (edited) Hi guys, I'm looking for an EUB for silent arco practice. I need a frame/knee support so I can practice sat down or stood up. I'm really interested in a Mo Clifton EUB or Yamaha silent bass. Either the SLB 100 or 200, ideally with knee support. Please drop me a pm if you have one to sell. geoffbassist Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 (edited) Thanks Jim. I've already tried that one, but the seller wants gets a replacement upright before he let's it go. Edited December 9, 2011 by geoffbassist
Clarky Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 IIRC Mr Bassman (Keith) has an SLB for sale in his signature
Clarky Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Just checked, he does indeed have an SLB100 listed as FS/FT in his sig
geoffbassist Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 I've already been to see Keith who very kindly let me play his eub's. I think he's a bit unsure on which ones to keep :-)
BassBod Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Did you see the Frequent Flyer prototype currently listed at The Gallery? I'm guessing its Dave Chamberlain selling, so you could always make him an offer....
geoffbassist Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 Thanks for that BassBod. I hadn't seen that. I think I need more of a frame, but it's a great design. Would be nice to give one a try.
BassBod Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I know what you mean about the frame - it does have some supports, but I think they are more skeletal than the wooden EUB versions. This is probably the same bass that was for sale here a few weeks ago - worth a search for some more images?
geoffbassist Posted December 9, 2011 Author Posted December 9, 2011 I think I would struggle without the support. Particularly sitting. Ive also found similar designs tend to turn when standing. The 'T Bar' on the Eminence does a great job at stopping this, but I want the bass to feel as much like an upright as possible. Its main use will be for silent practice.
BassBod Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 That's going to be one of Mo's "proper job" EUBs then. Mine is pretty much identical to an acoustic (generic, rather than a specific bass...my Zeller is nothing special!) so if you close your eyes, then everything is where it should be. Thats nice. I first saw the T bar idea on the '80's Merchant EUB - simple idea that works. The leg/knee support on Mo's EUB does the same job (I broke mine on a tour...and yes, it does want to spin without it). Best of luck on the hunt...
Mr Bassman Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Come and have another plonk on mine anytime Geoff.
geoffbassist Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 All sorted. Found a very nice Mo Clifton. Thanks for all help and advice.
