Protium
But a song is the sum of the music and the lyrics (which are written by Wire). Otherwise it's just a rather dull instrumental
Not quite, Richey wrote the majority of the lyrics for The Holy Bible
rOB
Good song, excellent album. The various members of MSP grew up together and are bonded in a way that goes beyond musicianship so picking on particular members for what they can or can't do pretty much misses the point to me, and I'm not that big a fan of the band. Maybe Wire has developed the slightly larger than life stage persona to act as a foil for the fact that Bradfield's doing a lot of work vocally/musically can't really move around that much?
I like a lot of what they do and agree with this. If I was putting together a band to support a lead vocalist who also plays lead guitar then I would want a bass player who has stage presence and can move around. Cosmo Valdemar
The basslines from Everything Must Go onwarda have for the most part been pretty dull, but The Holy Bible is one of my top bass albums ever* - stark, angular lines that often dominate the song and tend to define the whole tone of the album. This in particular has always been a favourite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiG7lxhJ0-0 The previous album, Gold Against The Soul, is very shiny and influenced by US rock of the time. It's disliked by a lot of fans but contains some fantastic songs and some wonderful Rickenbacker clank throughout. Lozz196
Must admit, have only really got the MSP stuff since Everything Must Go, but that track Sllepflower, well I can see the rock influence - James Dean Bradfield is a big fan of Slash apparently. Think I`ll have to get Gold Against The Soul, really liked that.
