paulconnolly
My mate's son has started playing bass and done a few gigs. He's been using a guitar combo and so dad has decided he needs a proper bass combo. So what does he get? I have a GK backline combo for practising at home and I thought something similar would be suitable for rehearsals and the small bars that they are currently playing. I'd appreciate some recommendations from the knowledgeable people on here.
xgsjx
It depends on the budget. GK, SWR, Ashdown & a few others make some decent combos for not a lot of money. I would say look in the "for sale" section on here.
paulconnolly
Agreed. I don't know his budget but I'd reckon on around £200. Will have a more detailed scan in the for sale section.
Ben Jamin
EBS Session 60? I think they retail at just over
JakeBrownBass
I'd recommend the EBS session 60. They sound fantastic for the money and with all EBS stuff are a lot louder than there wattage ratings might suggest.
spaners
if hes guna gig then he needs min 200w, i got a trace elliot 715 n that is proper loud and for sale lol
Mr. Foxen
I'd say not go combo and get a head and cab, much easier to upgrade modular, and at gear sharing gigs, only need to cart a head about, and you learn a lot about cabs that way, and how to use EQ to suit them. paulconnolly
I think at this early stage he's not a total convert to the low side plus the plan was to use it for rehearsals as well as gigs so it needs to be portable as well as flexible. Thanks for the suggestions to date, I'll pass 'em on
Lozz196
If the Trace that Spaners is selling fits into the budget, you could do a lot worse. the other bassist in my band - yes, we have two - uses a Trace 1x15 combo (not sure what model) and it is seriously loud. Easily ok for our band, which has drums, 2 basses, 3 gtrs, and keys. The EBS mentioned got some seriously good reviews, when it was released. An internet search will find them.
