I owned Kramer Bass in the early mid 80's, it had an alumiun head if I remember right. What became of Kramer are there any of their guitars still around?

Kramer are now owned by Gibson and still make a couple of basses but nothing really interesting looking.

The aluminium-necked instruments that they started out with in 1976 continued through until the mid-80s by which time they had been phased out in favour of pointy-headstock super strats. You can find out all about Kramer's history at the Vintage Kramer site.

Gary Kramer - who co-founded the company left after the first year. These days he's only making guitars, but there are some interesting original designs such as the Turbulence.

I picked up an aluminium necked 450B recently off Ebay. It was my dream guitar as a student in the early 80's, but I could not afford the price tag. Great bass and a bit different to the run of the mill. You see people asking crazy amounts of money for these, though if you bide your time you should be able to pick one up for under £250, I did! Not sure about the moderns, would be interested to try one.
