Highfox Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Congrats to the guy, he's turned a lot of people onto bass playing. Check out the vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krYWckN8Gs0 Quote
munkonthehill Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 have I picked this up wrong, but is his signature model going to be reliced? Quote
risingson Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Good on him I suppose, and yes I think he has turned a lot of people onto bass playing. Also shows how much times have changed. This is a guy with no affiliation to any well known band, just a Youtube sensation. Quote
wateroftyne Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I haven't watched the vid yet, but I should think so too. He's a great player. Quote

Just seems to love the bass and dedicates his life to communicating that love. That'll do for me. Good guy. Also quite like the Sandberg relics. Quote
Happy Jack Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I'm delighted that he's got a signature bass - I can't think of many people who deserve one more - but even more delighted that he's chosen a relic'd bass. Now I don't feel any need to buy one. Quote
swanbrook Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Congrats to him, great player and a true love for bass Quote
munkonthehill Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 but why a relic, In all his videos he doesnt use one...so why have a custom one? Quote
wateroftyne Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011
but why a relic, In all his videos he doesnt use one...so why have a custom one?
Maybe he just wanted one...? Quote
munkonthehill Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I always thought the sig models were meant to be a reproduction of the persons main bass!!! However I guess as he uses lots of bass (non relic as far as I remember) he can do whatever he wants. Quote
Highfox Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Is that salmon pink jazz that he uses a Sandberg? Maybe he is trying to reproduce that one? Quote
Happy Jack Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 If that bass is Salmon Pink, remind me not to eat salmon when in Denmark ... Quote
Fat Rich Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011
but why a relic, In all his videos he doesnt use one...so why have a custom one?
I definitely remember seeing him playing a relic Sandberg on some of his vids, I guess that's his favourite. Quote
RichF Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011
I definitely remember seeing him playing a relic Sandberg on some of his vids, I guess that's his favourite.
yes he has used a Sandberg relic as well as the pink one - his "main" basses for me are his early 60's Jazz and the Marcus Miller 4 Jazz. Obviously he's had loads more including his Rick, F bass, etc. Def though a Jazz man in my head at least. Also is this a genuine signature model (available to punters to buy) or a custom build, which we can ask for if we go custom but not otherwise available? Quote
warwickhunt Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Top bass player, instructor and well deserved! Quote
warwickhunt Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Worn, beat-up... this can be natural wear and tear over the years but generally if a bass has been "relic'd" it has been done unnaturally i.e. with sticks/stones and a belt/orbital sander. Some can look nice but you can go OTT and they look pants! Quote
Musicman20 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Like his playing a lot, and very good instructor. Im guessing it will be YET another Jazz though...hmm Quote
Wylie Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 He is a good guy. I copyedited his PlayBassNow newsletter for a few months; he then got too busy to keep up with it, I think. Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I know the name but can't remember for the life of me who this chap is. Quote

BottomE Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Joining the Marlowe love-in. Seems like a great guy. Quote
Killerfridge Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Yeah, I too have to give the love to MarloweDK - such a fantastic youtube channel, and really top player. Totally deserves a Signature bass. I think you can probably buy them either relic'd, partially relic'd or non relic'd - much like most of the Sandberg line. Quote
3rdUncle Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) The relic thing has to be the biggest lot of nonsense ever. Paying extra for an artificially aged instrument! Try explaining that to the Vera Lynn/tuppence ha'penny/Down t' pit generation. They'd box yer ears for ya! That aside, it's good to see Marlow DK getting it. All the stuff he's done for free makes him a good 'un in my book. Edited December 12, 2011 by 3rdUncle Quote
thisnameistaken Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I wanted a Sandberg before, and I want one more now. Quote
