krispn Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 So I stumbled upon this earlier. Really useful as a sonic guide and comparison. All the listed pick ups were fitted to the same bass, a 70's P I think there are 9 different pick ups tested. http://www.ozbassforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3672&st=0&sk=t&sd=a Hope someone finds it useful Quote
Lozz196 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Seymour Duncan Antiquity and Voodoo get my vote. Quite surprised, as wasn`t too keen on the Fender Original/Vintage, yet when I had one it was great. Could be another case of works great in the mix, sounds a bit ropey on its own. Quote
Conan Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Very useful, thanks! Would have been nice if they'd played the same music on each clip, but still very enlightening. Might be my crap speakers but I thought a lot of them sounded similar... Quote
The Bass Doc Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Wonder why he didn't include the original 70s Fender pickup his bass would have had? Probably BLX'd it by taking the thing apart so many times. Quote
Monckyman Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I liked the Nordstrand and the Vintage Fender. Quote
Bobby K Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Like others have said, pity they didn't all play the same piece of music... I've just put a Dimarzio model P in my P bass and it sounds great! Quote
Bassman Sam Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 What, no Kent Armstrong hot vintage. Outrageous. They are first class. Quote
krispn Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 I've had an NP4 and really liked it but sold the bass on. The Antiquity sounds big and the 1/4lb interests me too. been nice to hear some other others like the Lakland models (which makes great pick ups!) and Fralins. If you guys uncover any more maybe we could get a thread stickies with some useful links as its a question which gets asked so frequently? G Quote
