devinebass Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Hey guys, these are a questions I get asked SO much... What are the modes? How can I practice them? Is it not just the same as a major scale? ... And I can totally relate! They used to confuse me so much when I was younger... then suddenly, like a light switch turning on I was like... Ahhhh, that's what they are - that's how to practice them! So yes, all of the diatonic modes are built from the major scale - BUT each one has it's own sound and characteristics. To realize this and embed the sound within your musical memory you must treat them as there own entity. I've put this video lesson together to show you what I'm talking about. Hopefully you'll have the 'light switch moment' I had. Here's the lesson... http://scottsbasslessons.com/welcome-to-the-shed Thanks for checking it out!
