FFFFUUUUUU note to self, never put stickers on a bass ever again

just the other day, i decided that the stickers on my cort action ( my fav bass/ first one ) that i put on about 5 years ago were getting a bit old. i then decided to take them off........

this is what happened to my baby :'(


i was young and inersent when i put the stickers on in the first place

does anyone know anything i can to to make them not look as but without putting new finish on it ???

WD40 should get the sticker residue off - spray it on directly and apply some elbow grease with a soft cloth. I've used it to get rid of unwanted sticker residue from things I've bought on Ebay.

lighter fuel cleans well also... any solvent should do the trick used with a plastic scraper and a lint free cloth. You might find the sticked areas darker when cleaned due to sunlight fading the rest

I have a '72 P and a '73 J both of which have obvious old sticker marks and both of which look great because o them

use a hair dryer to remove the stickers, that will help you geting them off easyer and in one piece.

any kitchen oil like olive or sunflower on a bit of cotton will easy remove the residual glue.

use scratch remover if necessary and buff with some polish.

If the labels are paper based, go to a stationers and ask for some label remover. Soak them in this for five minutes, and peel off. Vinyl stickers, you're stuffed!!!

White Spirit should be OK, your thinking of Thinners

Little bit of cooking oil works wonders. Wet a cloth with cooking oil and gently rub the goo.

BUT - obviously don't use it on unfinished wood or you'll get a stain. But for paint / gloss bodies it always works.

Orange oil or label remover as said before.....also the hairdryer trick is how to remove vinyl for sure.

furniture polish is the all time best way to remove sticky sh**t from any finish. lighter fluids (naptha) and white spirit could cause all kinds of mess. And you end up with a nice smelling bass. Ladle it on and leave it for 15 minutes, wipe and repeat.

Wazoo, that was so scarily like a pushy American TV ad, I'm now a little taken aback... but curious. How have you found the remover? It almost seems a little 'too good to be true'.

Mayonnaise is also very effective at removing sticker goo and won't damage the underlying finish or require you to handle everything with gloves on, unlike some of the solvents being suggested here. At least no-one has suggested trichloroethylene yet!
