Richeyrockshack Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 I'd start the haggling at £400.......or 30 camels........or 3 buxom wives..........

simwells Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Presume you don't have the pickup cover kicking around anywhere then?
munkonthehill Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 so is this a fake rickenbacker? or is CMI a model?
Mr. Foxen Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Copy more than a fake. Some improvements were made over the genuine model. CMI were Marshalls brand they used to supply music shops with instruments when Fender did things like refuse to sell instruments to people who didn't stock Fender amps, and get round limited distribution deals.
andy67 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Did CMI not become Ibanez or the distributor for Ibanez? The old brain is hazy and knackered ... Gosh was that 1976? Man where was I? Probably on a different planet ... Klangers!
Richeyrockshack Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 No pickup cover I'm afraid. Has anyone got any links to similar models? Richey
Richeyrockshack Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Three offers of £350 in my inbox this morning.......anyone care to raise the bar? Or should I put the names in a hat and choose one at random? I've contacted all three to be as fair as possible, and also to mention that I might be interested in a trade or part exchange against any interesting old guitars (sorry, not looking for any more basses...) or amps, so gimme a shout if that sounds tempting! Richey
simwells Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Personally I'd take the first offer you received of £350, I've not seen one of these sell for more than that in quite a while. £350 is a really good price for you for it, probably selling for a little more because the blue is unusual.

chrismuzz Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 He did originally ask for £400 though so it's up to him if he accepts £350 or waits for a better offer

chrismuzz Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Fair enough, I wasn't aware stating the value of offers was against the rules.

Machines Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 As advised already - auctions are not allowed. Please state price you want, if you want an auction go to eBay.
Richeyrockshack Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Hello again everyone, seems I've started a bit of a feisty thread.......believe me this wasn't the intention! Firstly, despite the recommendation to avoid the subject I am very much desperate to sell this beautiful bass, I recently lost my job and have to face facts that any guitars/basses/gear in general which I don't use would be much better put to good use by someone else, and in doing so I can make sure I have a roof over my head for the winter. I had no intention of starting in affect any sort of auction. I only posted that I had three offers for the same cash amount as I thought that if there were another offer it would be the fairest way of choosing who to sell to. As it turns out, two of those offers would require a courier service so I have decided to offer to the only person who offered to come and collect in person. I am not available (being Xmas week) until the 29th and the current prospective buyer is also unavailable until early January, we have both agreed happily that I should continue to advertise the bass in the meanwhile and that I would be a fool to accept a lesser figure for the bass if it were offered...........if this is agreeable by the both of us then why is there any issue here? If you're interested in buying give me a shout, if you're not then surely it doesn't affect you? As stated before there were no intentions to annoy anyone or to run an auction. I had chosen to advertise on this site because it has been a great source of knowledge over the years and also because with such a rare and almost cult-followed item I figured best to make sure that it would go to somebody who knows their stuff........ie that it would hopefully go to a good home. Guys lets not fight, it's Christmas! Please remember also that I originally stated I was after £400......I'd still like that figure, so if there's an offer for that amount it'll sell. Just to conclude, I am genuinely sorry for any offence caused, none was intended in the slightest. Thanks for listening! Richey
Ou7shined Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Surely, seeing as this odd turn of events have presented themselves, it should automatically be offered to either of the other 2 who contacted you offering 350.... this of course ignores the established protocol of dealing first with the 1st person who contacted you with an offer of 350 (1 in 3 chance they weren't).... particularly as at no point did you stipulate shipping conditions which would nullify any competing offers. As it stands this is still appears to be an auction because you have stated you will take 350 from one person but should an offer closer to your preferred 400 comes up you will take that instead. Just to clarify, no one is annoyed and there are no fights. This forum is proud to exist with a level of self policing... before the mods come in and cast things in stone that is. Rules are in place, rules which in fact came about specifically because of an incident pertaining to (or an accusation of) bidding in a FS thread. If your auction style thread slipped through the net a precedence might be set for others to follow, hence the interest from members. Happy Xmas.
