jaybyname
Hi all, just finished the primer on my bass ready for the satin black Ive chosed. My question is, whats the best way to do it. Do I spray then sand down and spray again etc. And do I need to put a clear coat over the top? Not sure. The preparation Ive done is awesome, dont want to spoil my ggod work. Cheers. Batfastard
Sanding between coats or flatting will give you the best results just use a high grit sand paper. 1200 grit was the best for me. You can get satin clear coat sprays http://www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/shop/category/nitrocellulose-lacquer/clearcoats/ this is what I used on my project and it turned out nicely. jaybyname
Great advice, thanks. As I was sanding the primer today I figured that Id do the same with the satin. Should look good. Ill buy the satin clear coat then. Just one coat? Is it thick?
Batfastard
I used most of the can and did it it in lots of coats to avoid streaks. If you spray it on too thick it will run and and you you have to sand it back untill the white streaks disappear. Remember it will take a few weeks to fully cure. Ou7shined
1200 will produce an almost polished finish. For a satin finish you want to finish with 5-800 grade. Edited December 21, 2011 by Ou7shined
