fatback Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) I think Santa is going to bring me a new car radio (yaay!), but which one should I ask for? I really want one that will play MP3s direct from a USB stick and display the folders (albums, that is. Call me old-fashioned). I don't care if it has a CD player or not, but I suppose they all do. I don't need to play from an ipod or phone either. Any ideas? I've trawled the web but it's pretty confusing. Edited December 22, 2011 by fatback Quote
Matt P Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 i'm a big fan of Kenwood for in car audio, i've got a couple (older models though) any of these would seem to fit the spec; http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/cd_receivers/usb/ Matt Quote

fatback Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Thanks for the tips, lads. atm I've enough knackered CDs in the car to fill several good sized potholes. Can't wait to get rid of the lot. Quote

I bought a Pioneer something or another just under a year ago, can't recll model but I could fish it out if interested, it cost me £70 or so, and I think it's great. I bought a couple of very small usb sticks, 16Gb, they protrude only about 5mm so they can be left on when removing the fascia and it fits in the case... If you buy these sticks, do NOT get the Lacie MosKeyto keys. I have had two fail within months and it seems it's relatively common. I bought another brand I cannot recall (in the car right now) and had no trouble. Quote

Protium Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Some Alpine ones have iPod and USB connection, I've just sold mine one as well Quote
mantekka Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 I got a Pioneer one last year from here http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=DEH2320UB Have an 8gb USB key and it's very handy. Good to have the standard auxilary audio input at the front aswell so you can play any portable device. Quote
fatback Posted December 24, 2011 Author Posted December 24, 2011 Can you browse from USB by folder, or do these players dump all the tracks together in one list? Great info, thanks. Quote
mantekka Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Yep on my one you browse by folder. And you can browse while an album is playing. Takes a wee bit of learning but it's fine once you get the hang of it Quote

Good sound too, but can't for the life of me work out how to browse the folders. Any idea? Quote
