I'm on here a lot too.having said that, I can't do it at work, so instead of watching brain dead tv I browse here most evenings.
I ve run out of inspiration again for about a year. Just recently got iPad to regain some inspiration.

As for yo EH : I advise you to relax. Don't beat yourself up about your learning of songs.
I also think that you could either see a teacher on a weekly basis if you can afford.
Or you could get DVD not too advanced of your favourite bass players.

Or you could leave the bass alone for a few weeks, and see if you miss it.
Hope it works out

I spend a lot of my day on here, as i get bored and this is the best thing. I can't play my bass at work, but i will admit i do much the same at home (Although half the time i do both at once). Many nights i will jsut grab my bass, my lexicon alpha and a pair of headphones and just browse the Ultimate Guitar top 100 Guitar Pro files and learn random things, i find that quite fun actually, and sometimes a little bit of a challenge.

You really shouldn't be so worried about that!
As Ray said, it's way better than watching dumb TV.
Sure, you are a bit procrastinating, but, hell, you meet so many other procrastinators from all over UK and beyond! You are socializing, dammit! Enjoy it! :D

Hmm i probably spend far too long on here, but i also spend far too long playing bass haha!

I do though because i love it, everything from grinding exercises/scales to noodling, i love every moment!

I've gone through periods of practising 5/6 hours a day each day in a week. Though only a few times, it's the same for my other main instrument, the Bass Trombone. I find all of it joyful though which is how that happens.

Have you thought about why you spend so long on BC and questions like that? Sometimes i am totally lifeless and will likewise spend a whole day scrolling up and down on here.

Asking myself such questions i can't really think of an answer. Maybe it was a Hypno-Goat charm!

Maybe we should get some other hobbies

Can you play bass too much?

I think I do, I cant get enough. I love learning new things, and everytime I pick up my bass I feel amazing. Everytime. Sure, I've had off days, particulaly after recording sessions.Still I dont think I would have ever got to where I am with myself as a player and with my band.

Some days when I wake up, I have to play the bass, usually because I didnt play the day before. Most weeks I play so much that I ruin the tips of my fingers.!!!!

Bass is a big part of my life, and I honestly get upset a little if I cant play my bass through my rig. Most nights are spent playing through my headphones to tunes, and going over scales and just improvising to a drum track to help write new songs.

God, I love bass.

Merry Christmas aswell everyone!!!!.

Thanks for the replies pplz, I have thought about maybe getting more lessons but I'm not sure that it's really the problem. I mean I know what I need to learn, it's just an issue of being motivated I think.

I think you've pretty much answered your question. It's just because I've usually not got anything better to do. It's usually a case of either this or the sims. It's not all bad though, because I do listen to a lot of music whilst on the computer. Occasionally I may find some inspiration.

I uess good way to spend more time playing than reading forum is to have someone to play along with. :D
Have you tried?

Most definetely. One of my friends comes around occasionaly and I tought him the basics of bass and guitar. I shoved some adverts up in a music shop when I first went to uni in Manchester (a city in the north west of england, which is quite well known for it's music). I got a couple of auditions here and there but nothing ever worked out. Part of the problem was that although music is prolific, most of it seems to be indie and pop rock bands. Nothing I was really interested in. I think the biggest problem is that I just struggle with people. I mean I remember I put an ad up on a website and got no replies, a friend puts another ad up on the same website and gets 5 in a week!

I seem to find it a lot easier to socialise with people on here than in real life. Whereas I could never really go up to someone and just start talking to them in real life, I am more than happy to enter into a conversation on here being spoken by people I've never met before. What is worrying is that sometimes this is my only source of socialisation. There were days last year just after I started uni when this was the only time I ever actually communicated with anyone, for the whole day. I must say I am getting less interested in watching TV. Especially since we stopped getting sky.

I think I'm a lot better than I used to be. A couple of years ago when I was in this band with my friends I was so angry about not being able to play the drums. I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I just wanted to pack the whole thing in. Now I just try to enjoy it more, but I still think it's frustrating that I just can't concentrate on not just music but anything. If I could just find something I could work at then I think I would feel a lot better.

I think it's a good thing if you're interested in something, at least it's constructive.

Average time spent per user is 10 mins per visit.

That sounds about right to me in practice. I generally use BC in bursts of about 10 minutes, typically while having a tea break, but I do so many times per day.

But sometimes I don't logoff, so I don't know if that 10 minute stat is particularly accurate.

Yeah, that's my case. Sometimes I go play bass, leaving browser with Basschat's My Content & New Content pages opened and set on auto-refresh... And I check it once in a while.
