I'm currently after a double bass but can't really afford a half decent one on my budget, but a luthier friend of mine has said that if I can get hold of an old b&h laminate or something of that ilk that's been terrorised and maybe even has the neck off he will sort out for me free of charge! Which is great news but I still need the bass so if you have anything that fits the description then please let me know.

There's this one on eBay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Double-Bass-4-4-full-size-no-strings-/290649349615?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Sting_Instruments&hash=item43ac0d1def

He says 4/4 but then isn't sure, and it's not too far from you.

You could ask him to measure it properly based on these measurements on Bob Gollihur's website.

This bass is suffering from a very severe crack at the rear/heel/neck area, which is why I would imagine it is unstrung as it would fold in half under the string tension. I can see where the neck is lifting out of the body.
Be absolutely sure that your luthier can deal with that before buying because in my experience luthiers will not bother re attaching necks on instruments of this value.
