Bilbo
Brings back lovely memories. It was one of the early lps I used ot get into jazz and I worked this tune out as an early transcription (Egan is hotter on this video than he was on the LP). Egan studied with jaco and you can really hear it in the closing stages. He found his o wn voice later on. Note the toothbrish holding Metheny's guitar strap on. He broke the strap button and used a toothbrush as a temporary repair and there it stayed for decades!!!
dmccombe7
I enjoyed that. Thanks. Dave
Wylie
I also enjoyed it. Egan is hot, and yes, hotter than on the LP. In an interview, Metheny said that when recording for that outfit (can't remember his original label's name), they had two days to record the album, and no more. One of the reasons, apparently, that he left the label.

rumour6
Lovely... in the style but subtly different, love this era (Bright Size Life etc..) when they were all working with Manfred Eicher's ECM label. Andy

Mykesbass
Probably one of the best examples to use next time the anti-bass-solo threads start up again! And that's from someone who isn't a massive bass solo fan but that was exceptional. Thanks for posting - off to try the album now.
KevB
It's not so much anti bass solo as anti solo bass. Different thing. Egan's following the melody and working round it with the other players accompanying him. Not doing the meaningless mechanical and repetitious w***ery that passes itself off as soloing far too often basically.
