When i bought the Jaco Pastoriuos cd, the guy in the shop asked me if i was a bass player (or more like confirmed it for himself) He said that he always asked whenever anyone bought one, which only happened 3 or 4 times a year, and that he had yet to find anyone buying one who was not a bass player. I asked him if [i]he[/i] was a bass player and of course he was

This just illustrates that Bass players , including Jaco Pastorious, are pretty much a minority interest in the wider world. I'd never heard of Jaco Pastorious until I discovered this site (and I'm still not a fan).
