Basschat guitar (not bass) forum

I think a subforum that just caters for members here would be preferable to opening the gates to all (personal, not official opinion). I play guitar myself too and wouldn't mind reading through a few threads where I know the content will not be "who is better slash or hendrix LOL !!11"

some people here are really disrespectful.

where is the problem of having 1 subsection for the guitar related topics for basschatters only?
I think it would be nice to find all these posts under one category.
also all you bassterds don't have to fiddle with it inbetween your bass-only topics! :yarr:

but some peoples position seems to be the of the not good enough guitarplayer that became a bassist. :on_the_quiet:

I think that's all anybody is really asking for. Can't see how it would cause any upset!

Only problem with that is if it becomes really popular and attracts a lot of guitarists to join Basschat, who then start asking a lot of novice questions in the bass sections or start taking the micky out of us like they do in real life  It's probably a small risk but I'd prefer not to change the feel and vibe of Basschat as on the whole it's pretty excellent.

A UK based sister site Guitarchat would be a great, hopefully it would have a similar vibe but I suspect it would be a little different because most guitarists have different personalities to most bass players.... not better or worse but just different. Although us bass players are better aren't we? ;)

I reckon Guitarchat would get a quite a few of us Basschat members initially and have the same vibe, it'd be interesting to what it changes into when "real" guitarists start joining.

But that's the point of making it a subforum that's only visible to members - it's not going to attract lots of guitarists because they won't know it's there!

Off Topic is currently not visible to non-members - you can't see it when you are not logged in, and therefore it's not picked up on by search engines either, so doesn't appear in Google search results etc. If a guitar subforum was set up the same way, it's not going to attract hordes of guitarists because only registered BC members would see it existed!

i play guitar too. i write on guitar, and i think i'm a pretty decent player. i think some bands find it a bit weird having a bassist that can play and write a bit. i try and play a bit of both everyday, to keep creative. i really want to push myself with my writing this year.

i have a danelctro U2 and a Vox amp (only a valvetronix, but it does sound nice). i have just brought an avid recording studio (a really basic bit of kit, but just what i need) (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/AvidRecordingStudio.html) so i hope it will make it easier to develop my ideas.

I am starting to think the naysayers have an image in their heads that all guitarists are at the front of stage swinging a Strat or LP and going rilly rilly ree without a though for the rest of the band. We are not all like this, some of us play classical, flamenco, folk, synth, or approach electric guitar in a completely different way to how most people might imagine.

Quite! To which I would add and reiterate that some of us work extremely hard to develop our playing skills, not so that we can show off but so that we can make a better musical contribution. One of the benefits of being able to do both to a decent standard is that you get a broader perspective of what others are trying to do, and talk to them as equals. That, surely, is a situation any musician should want.

Come to think of it, I've changed my mind - it would be nice to see a guitarists' subforum along the lines others have outlined.

Fair enough, if it's not visible to the outside world then it becomes like a furtive activity that no one should ever speak about. Which with my guitar skills seems appropriate.

I'm not keen on the term "guitard" either. While there are people to whom the term is probably applicable they are not just limited to guitar players - unfortunately every instrument including the bass has it's equivalent.

However there is a very simple solution to the problem of these people clogging up our stages, studios and rehearsal rooms.

SIMPLY STOP PLAYING WITH THEM!

Without bands to be in these people will be reduced to playing in their bedrooms and on YouTube where they can be safely ignored for ever.

I've only been unlucky enough to be in a band with one once. He lasted 2 gigs before being kicked out. It would have been just the one gig but the second one was on the following night and there wasn't enough time to rewrite the songs to compensate for the change in instrumentation.

Ah, The Gus G1. It's actually mostly carbon fibre over cedar, the aluminium is just for the tube which defines the body shape and the hardware.

Simon Farmer the man behind Gus Guitars makes left-handed models and basses too.

Why not just have a guitar thread?

I'm a guitarist also and it looks like I'm moving back to playing guitar instead of bass in bands this year. Just about to mod my Warmoth with a cheapie Bigsby copy and some new pups, then I'll start perving on amps - very tempted by a Fender Blues Junior at the mo.

There have been guitar (and other instrument) threads in the past. There's a rather fine guitar porn thread somewhere.

Unfortunately if the threads aren't updated frequently they quickly disappear and people forget about them.

Also a separate sub-forum can be hidden from non-members, so it won't be a lure for non-bassists to join Basschat.

As a guitarist (yep I said it, and I am one) I would love to have a guitar forum on the web which isn't full of 12 year olds shouting "which pedal will make me sound like hendrix?" and old men saying "if you don't play blues on a les paul you're a big girl". But they do not exist, and I cannot be arsed to insinuate my way into the existing ones to find out who is nice and who is an arse. I like people here, they are ok and mostly not dicks. I would like a sub-forum for other instruments where I could talk with people I already know enough about to gauge their answers by their previous posts. It would save a lot of trouble. How about one for drums, one for guitar and one for anything else (I also want to talk about banjos and mandolins, again with people who's opinions I trust).

Hidden subforums will not bring about a shiny overdriven double-stacked pentatonic revolution. ;)
