1/4" Jack speaker out (taking head out of combo)

Can anyone advise me on the following ... I want to take the head out of the combo but it's internally wired so I want to 'cut' the speaker wires that connects to the amp & drill hole in chassis then solder the same 'cut' wires to a 'jack socket' (not speakon) so I can connect any cab to the (Eden Nemesis) amplifier. Can I use a normal 1/4" jack socket ? Does it need to be grounded or earthed etc ?

A normal 1/4" jack socket will work fine.
The earth is provided by the 'sleeve' part of the jack socket so no extra earthing is required.
