The Marlin
I have 9 Gretsches, including a Black Phoenix, a Jag Tan Annie LTV, and a Firebird PowerJet I also have two custom guitars, made by Mark Rutters in the USA. A LaCabronita relic, and a Telemaster relic. Both astonishing guitars. Also in the collection, a number of Italia guitars, including a Rimini 12 string. Amps are a heavily modified Laney VC30, Fender Bassman, Traynor YCS90, and an zomega Amps modded Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Walker
Just bought this - an upgraded G5120 (new loom and pups). I've never played guitar before, but I've wanted one of these for almost 40 years after being giving an Eddie Cochran LP when I was about 6! The Marlin
I was also watching that 5120, toying with adding it to the collection. But, I bought another Tele, and a 1969 Fender Vibrolus Reverb instead. The 5120!is a fine guitar, but the pickups and pots let it down. This one is fully upgrades, so will sound pretty damn epic. Truth be told, upgraded electromatics sound nearly identical to the pro lines Gretsches (in a blind test). Electrimatics and pro lines feel different, but the 5120 feels pretty damn good to me. Why not come over and meet the friendly folks at Gretsch Talk. Show off your purchase. Cheers Marlin
Walker
Thank you. The seller was literally around the corner from me, so it was a no- brainer really. As I mentioned, I'm not a guitar player, but my son is learning so I thought I would buy one too to learn with him. I'm enjoying the first few days with it and went straight into Mystery Train! It has the most confusing wiring though - it's going to take me a while to get used what each of the pots actually does and how they interact with each other - certainly doesn't seem to be much logic behind it!! Ive been lurking on gretsch talk for a couple of weeks, now I have one, it'll be time to sign up.

Dave Vader
More readers wives than proper porn, my Sue Ryder Telecaster, which now has fender japan pickups and a wilkinson bridge (plus some old squier 250k pots courtesy of Ki0gon, ta John) oh and a switch that doesn't break when you look at it. Also a classic Dave gaffa taped pickguard (cheaper than a new one) Amusingly the wilkinson bridge didn't cover the pickup rout underneath it, so there's a bit of copper tape covering the hole. For some reason I can't put this thing down, and I've had a lot of telecasters over the years. This one is a bit good (and shouldn't be).

GarethFlatlands
Just got back from the local guitar shop. I went in with a budget of about £300 for an all purpose workhorse guitar for any occasion and had my eye on the Squier Classic Vibe series. I spent about an hour trying various guitars and was pretty much sold on a Classic Vibe 50's strat. Excellent playability and build for the money if anyone's looking at one. Plugged it in and it was perfectly usable and then I made the fatal mistake of trying a MIM strat. The playability was better but not good enough to justify the extra £100 but the sound was a definate cut above. It was full and round where the Squier was a little quiet and brittle in comparison. I ended up with the MIM and went overbudget. I've somehow never owned a strat until now so I'm pretty excited even through it's just a bog standard guitar everyone's owned several of over their lifetimes. Big_Stu
Posted only because I just "re-found" the pic. File under "seemed like a good idea at the time"; I've since reswapped the pickups back to the ones it came with.
DaveFry
Kay LP FX Spotted in a 2nd Hand shop . Just needed a new speed knob and a 9v battery . I believe they were available mail order from a catalogue in the late 70s / early 80s . This is a page from the Sears ( U.S.) catalogue of 1983 ;

Ancient Mariner
I remember those Kay LPs loaded with effects. First time round was when I was 16 or 17 and it was a case of "wow, so many effects" but a year or later I'd learn just how bad most Kays were, and no longer had any deire for them. Hope that's not a bad one, and with all the electronics still intact & working so you can enjoy the nostalgia. Nice Les Paul '12string'. Solid mahogany? 12stringbassist
Yup - it's the worn brown mahogany Traditional model. Weighs a ton, but lovely.
mike257
Love that LP - I've been eyeballing second hand ones for months, narrowly avoided brushes with a couple of Gumtree scammers in the process. I went out at lunchtime today for a sandwich and came back with this.... [attachment=121999:TeleDlx.jpg] Fender Telecaster Deluxe '72 Reissue - the Arctic White finish was a limited run too, so I'm made up. I'll be sticking the original bridge pickup back in and swapping the 250k pots for 500k ones to open the top end up and she'll be lovely! It's sat behind me at my desk right now, so tempting to stop working and start riffing!
