Jayben Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Alright guys, here's my band's cover of Hysteria by Muse.. Any constructive criticism is very welcome We recorded the drums bass and rhythm guitar live together, then overdubbed the lead guitars and vocals. I personally mixed the track in Logic Pro 9, so any comments with regards both musicality and mixing would be much appreciated! http://soundcloud.com/jaybhall/hyseria-mkii Quote
crez5150 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Love the bass sound..... pretty spot on.... My only criticism is the timing is a bit all over the place.... other than that great stuff Quote
Jayben Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Thank you very much The timing is something I'm working on, it's not an easy song to play.. I used a Boss ODB-3 with the treble way down and he bass turned up, the balance knob at about 2 o clock and the gain at about 11, then mixed it with a clean DI track.. If anyone's interested in knowing how we got it Quote

deanbean502 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Credit were credits due, thats a hard riff dude. Well done Quote

Play to a click, it'll help you all with your timing. Quote
Jambo10 Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 All in all. A good cover. Bass sounding good. Not the easiest tune to churn out. Quote
DannyBAL_CPD Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I like it. Great Bass intro. Just needs some polishing. Quote
JakeBrownBass Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 The main riff needs work, slow it down & practice with a metronome. Build up the speed once you have it all under your fingers in time. The guitarist needs to buy a tuner. Quote
Dad3353 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 This ^^^^ The singing's not too bad (for the 'genre'...) but the vocal sound is pretty bad (imho...). A difficult one to pull off; my band left it after a while (may try it again...). Keep working, it will all improve with practice (including the recording/mixing...). Quote
dumelow Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 What did you use to achieve that distorted vocal effect, if you dont mind me asking? sounds close to the original i thought. although i am listening on little teeny weeny laptop speakers Quote
Jayben Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 I used a clip distortion plugin on Logic 9 to achieve the vocal distortion... Thank you for the feedback people, again timing is something I'm working on, but I'll be sure to be more diligent and disciplined about it.. Quote
