Moos3h
Wow. I bought two Ashdown MAG 1x15 cabs recently and found myself dissapointed that they didn't really have much punch to them - in addition they didn't seem to go that low and struggled to cope with the low end from my bass. So, despite taking a big gamble that they would suit the cabs, I ordered some Eminence Deltalite 2515 II speakers to go in. Fitted them yesterday and I am SO impressed! It's like having a new set of strings! There's more clarity, depth and LOADS of low-end, even with a huge bass boost from the onboard preamp of my bass I can't get them to sound anything less than awesome. As a nice side issue, they cabs are now lighter and handle more power. I'm chuffed to bits! Cheers, James
Rumple
Don't you just love it when a gamble like this comes out a winner
gary mac
Nice one James. Not good though is it, that it's necessary to do so?
Machines
It seems to suggest the cabinet design is less much important than the quality of the speaker and an interesting potential for upgrading 'cheap' cabs.
Moos3h
I think there's a luck factor though - I didn't bother with WinISD or anything like that and have no idea if the cabs are optimal, so it was a lucky punt that I like what I hear. The second factor is the fact I like what I hear, I suppose - one man's 'bright' is another man's 'harsh' etc. etc. All I can say is I'm really chuffed, I've ended up with a massive sounding pair of cabs for not too much outlay - the Deltalites were on special offer at £79.99 each which strikes me as relatively well priced? Mr. Foxen
Kappalite into a MAG 1x15 witht he rear ports works well, ports are small enough to chuff in theory, but is hitting much higher spl than it was without trouble.
ColinB
Good news. I did something similar by putting an Eminance Deltalite II 12" speaker into a Warwick neo 12" cab (with some re-porting from winISD) and ended up with an excellent cab. I keep looking for another Warwick cab on ebay to do the same thing with, but to no avail.
Adrenochrome
Interesting, I've always thought that my MAG 2x10 cab was nicely designed but let down by the poor speakers - I'm still considering replacing them if I can grab anything better as an ebay bargain. Moos3h
Now I've gotta find a use for the Ashdown 15" speakers!
Lozz196
Nice one, glad it worked out ok. I`d keep hold of the Ashdowns, you never know when/if you`ll want to shift gear on, and selling items stock usually means they go quicker, plus, you`ll have the resell factor on the Deltalites too. [/quote] Or that the cabinets we good designs in the first place but their market position didn't allow use of such expensive drivers. I suppose one solution would be well designed cabinets that use expensive (Eminence, for example) drivers. The barefaced cheek of it!
