mart
Thanks mart, I might have gone for that, but I see they don't post their guitars (store collection only) and since I live in Sussex, this isn't practical.
Oh yes, I'd forgotten they were like that. Shame. If I were at all likely to swing by Sussex in the near future, I'd offer to deliver it for you; but unfortunately that's not on the cards. duffer1
If you're still looking then try the Ashbory - now sold in the UK by the guy who designed it, Nigel Thornbory, fitted with Aquila Thundergut strings for £200! I went to his base in Wantage and tried/bought one. He seems very approachable.
cocco
I'd suggest a Steinberger type, you still have the 34" scale so no muscle memory problems. I'd also recommend an iRig if you have an iphone/ipad/ipod.
petek2010
The playawayguitars site link also shows a short scale folding bass here http://www.playawayg...php?itemID=1388 Still more than your budget though. Vinny
My vote comes in for the Samick Corsair, a proper P-bass in 24" scale. (got one and love it)
Leon Transaxle
I tried out one of these a while ago and it sounded pretty decent through an amp. G string was a bit odd; had indentations at regular intervals rather than completely smooth. Put me in mind of an A-level depiction of a myelinated neuron.
