discreet
I'm waiting for further developments.
Good luck! Thomann's customer service is generally pretty good, IME.
Ou7shined
The tiny bit of the fretboard in your photo looks amazing, lovely bit of tigerstripe ebony.
Isn't it rosewood?
Silvia Bluejay
Thank you all for following this and being by my side! I hope Thomann will do the right thing. After all, it'd work out much cheaper for them to give me a partial refund or a voucher than to ship a new bass from Germany and collect the old one. Ou7shined, yes, correct, it's rosewood. throwoff
Ou7shined, yes, correct, it's rosewood.
No he is not, despite Thomann and several other online retailers calling the fingerboards Rosewood ALL Fretless Warwicks be they German made, Korean or Chinese RockBass models have Tigerstripe Ebony Fingerboards. The reason for its lighter colouring is the fact Warwick to save money and be more enviromentally concious do not use only to core wood of ebony (the only bit that is jet black) they use far more or it, tonally and in terms of feel it is identical to the core wood. This leads to the brown 'tigerstriping' seen on the boards which I actually think is far more atractive than black ebony! The cheaper price allows them to put it on the Rockbasses. Silvia Bluejay
Well, I guess you're right then, as the fingerboard is different from that of my fretted 5-stringer. It's darker and smoother, but I thought that might simply be due to a different piece of (the same type of) wood and different machinery being used. Looks cool, definitely Edited January 13, 2012 by bluejay

throwoff
It is the hidden bargain of Warwick Rockbasses, you would pay a fair few quid more than their street prices for a Fretless with an ebony board elsewhere. More photos!
Silvia Bluejay
Will publish some as soon as my effing camera stops being temperamental - it's currently on the blink, and the other one I have is pretty sh*t and wouldn't do justice to the bass! I love taking macro photos of the nice bits of my new babies, but you need a decent lens...

Mr H
Somehow I can't help feeling just a tiny bit responsible... Was still a bargain, though, right? Phew.

You can't really blame me for thinking that though. I mean it looks like rosewood in that pic.
throwoff
Looks nought like rosewood! Way too smooth! But you have the best avatar on here so I shall accept your opinion!
Silvia Bluejay
LOL I promise I'll take some close-ups as soon as I manage to persuade the camera out of its sulk, so that we can all enjoy the sight of my new baby's fingerboard H, no worries, it's still a bargain, and I love it - although I'm still seemingly unable to play it (it's my first non-upright fretless and my intonation is all over the place!) . I'm pursuing the issue out of principle, mostly. Thomann haven't replied to my email with the photo attachment. That probably means I won't hear from them until Monday. Silvia Bluejay
Got yet another email from Thomann's Customer Care, requesting more photos, this afternoon. Impressed as it's Saturday. I've now sent them more shots of the bass with the scratch, plus pics of the boxes, which are in tip top condition as I opened them with much care, in case the bass had to be returned in them (sigh). Anyway, I'm working on the photos I took this morning - not just of the scratch, but of my beautiful baby in general! - and will post some of them here as soon as I have selected the best ones. discreet
You should charge Thomann a photography fee at Product Rates. Double bubble for weekends!
Silvia Bluejay
LOL so that they might end up paying me for having bought the bass
Silvia Bluejay
OK so if it works (I HATE Flickr from the bottom of my heart), here is the link to the whole set of 10 pics of the new baby, scratch and all Edit: I confirm that I detest Flickr. Silvia Bluejay
It's there, if you know where to look. It's very visible in some photos I've taken but chosen not to publish, as these were better.
Silvia Bluejay
PS Discreet, forgot to thank you for liking the pics! I love my new baby, scratched or otherwise... and I'm also beginning to sound all right on it. Will keep you guys posted on progress in the Thomann refund saga Edited January 16, 2012 by bluejay
leftyhook
nice pix. Liquid Liquorice! ( Winding down from a gig..it's just what came to mind when I saw your shiny black bass)
Silvia Bluejay
Yum! Thanks It's satin black, which means very dark brown in fact, and the grain of the wood underneath the finish is still visible. I chose it in preference to the normal jet black - which was available too - like that of my upright and my Crafter (my very first never-touched-a-bass-before student instrument). Silvia Bluejay
Haha I wasn't up for the sake of it, on certain days I may have to be up at crazy times because I work online with countries in different time zones. So I was in bed by 2am last night and today I was up at 5:30am.
paul_5
also, they appear to have posted you a bass where everything is the wrong way around, I'd get them to rectify that too...
