wateroftyne
Hi folks I fancy trying a set of the above... does anyone in the UK stock them?

wateroftyne
Yeah! It's lovely with the La Bellas on, but I need a new set so I thought I'd experiment...
Happy Jack
Have you tried putting a set of (* gasp *) rounds on it yet? It may be even more versatile than you thought when you bought it ...
wateroftyne
It came with a new set of Hi-Beams on it. I've done a couple of gigs with it, but rounds always sound (to me!) like there's a hole in the mids. That's why I moved to flats originally... every year or so I'll go through a rounds spell to remind myself why I'm a flats person.
redstriper
DR Hi-Beam flats are very nice and similar to GHS Precision flats in both feel and tone, but they are a bit more pricey: http://www.stringsdi...s_45_105_medium I also keep trying rounds, but they just don't suit me, while the GHSs feel and sound perfect. Legion
The 2 sets of JO flats I've bought recently came straight from Lakland off their website. No problems, no taxes or anything. Which at around £22 is good for me.
wateroftyne
Oooh.. cool. Thanks. Now.. Medium or light...?
redstriper
I thought you wanted to buy in the UK? The Lakland JOs are made by GHS and are exactly the same as their Precisions afaik. I usually buy the Precisions off ebay from the states for about £18 including delivery and never had to pay any tax.
wateroftyne
I didn't know they'd be that much cheaper direct from the US...
wateroftyne
They've arrived, just over a week later. Very quick, and very inexpensive! First impressions are good... nice feel, slightly sticky (which I'm sure will wear off) and nice, fat, rich notes....
redstriper
Did you get them from Lakland? The stickiness does wear off quite quickly and they just get better with age.

redstriper
Glad you're pleased, which gauge did you go for and how do they compare to the La Bellas?
wateroftyne
Glad you're pleased, which gauge did you go for and how do they compare to the La Bellas?
I went for the 45-106's. They're a bit heavier than the La Bellas, but I was thinking the lighter gauge might be a bit too light. So far, so good.. they feel very nice, but I'll know more when they're broken in. I'll report back here when the time comes...
redstriper
Thanks WOT, I look forward to your update. I think the 106 is a misprint on the Lakland site because the GHS Es are 105 not 106. Do they have the purple silks like the GHSs? I ask because my US ebay seller has vanished and I'm thinking of ordering from Lakland, but I want to be sure they are the same strings. I haven't tried the light scale set, only the regular and medium gauges.
wateroftyne
They have black silks...
Legion
I like em, a lot. And as it's so easy to get them direct I've got no complaints. Glad you like them as well WoT. Black silks=classy
redstriper
I emailed Lakland to ask if their flatwound strings are the same as the GHSs Precisions after reading that they are on their forum and got this reply:
i don't know, frankly. i had heard at one time that ghs, who makes our strings, were going to change their formula to match ours, but i have no idea whether 1) that story was acurate, and 2) if it was acurate, if it came to be.
Has anyone compared them I wonder?
EssentialTension
I think the 106 on the website is a mistake. The packet I had said 105. In fact even the picture of the packet on the website says 105. Edited January 24, 2012 by EssentialTension
