warwickhunt Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Do EMG do a pick-up that has the legend 'EMG ELECTRONIC' stencilled on the outside like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190627740564?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_500wt_1202 Added to which it looks very crude underneath (just a pair of Jazz pups in a MM casing though the top shows the 4 large pole magnets) and certainly the wiring/soldering looks a tad shoddy for EMG! I could be wrong but it just doesn't seem like an EMG product. Quote
ahpook Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 (edited) that's an EMC (european music company ?) pickup... i think tanglewood are part of the EMC stable. edit: looks like an similar pickup on this thread Edited January 14, 2012 by ahpook Quote
Mr. Foxen Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 EMG licence out their name. That is probably a pickup from a Johnson or AXL musicman styley, the P ones come with 'Johnson EMG' pickups. Quote

An oversight or hoping to catch the unwary/stupid? Quote

As opposed to the real thing which uses magnet pole pieces and the two coils. Quote
RhysP Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Bar magnets on the bottom - a sure sign of a quality pickup. Not. Quote

Mr. Foxen Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012
Bar magnets on the bottom - a sure sign of a quality pickup. Not.
Plenty of quality pickups have a bar magnet on the bottom, usually a bit less crudely installed, but essentially a ceramic bar with ferrous poles. Dimarzios are generally like that, and ceramic Kent Armstrongs. Quote
ahpook Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) the vendor replied, admitting his mistake and has amended the listing. god is in his heaven, etc. Edited January 15, 2012 by ahpook Quote
