evilLordJuju Posted January 15, 2012 Author Posted January 15, 2012 Thanks for your comments, very much appreciated. and i'm glad you're all enjoying the bass. But I don't think it was shipped any earlier than very late 1967. These were certainly shipping into 1967 with the non intonatable bridge (see Gibson bass bridges), but it would also have had the wider of the two metal humbucker covers (see Gibson bass pickups). The hardware definately says later. It is possible that this neck was made and stamped a few years earlier, and sat in the factory for a few years before being shipped - Gibson did funny things like that at times. I haven't taken the pots out to check the codes, but i'm pretty sure they will say late 1967, or even early 1968. Have a look at my 1967 Rivoli that isn't for sale http://www.flyguitars.com/epiphone/bass/1967EpiphoneRivoli.php - pot codes on that are just past the middle of '67. If this is an issue to anyone we can go into a whole lot more detail, or I can show more photos, even check the pot codes.
I'll bow to your far superior knowledge, as i'm not big on Epiphones. Serial number check does say '66 though on 3 different sites. I also thought the 2 -pickup version came in, in late '66, and also the slot head tuners were replaced by philips in '66. To be fair though, I'm probably basing this more on the Gibson EB2 vintage, and not Epiphones. I would suggest any buyers should disregard my comments, as they may well be incorrect from what the seller has said, or, as i'd always recommend, do plenty of your own research. Good luck with the sale though, its a lovely looking bass, i think the refin on the front of the body is probably the best i've seen on one of these.
evilLordJuju Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 I'd also consider a trade for a good condition early 70s Marshall 50w JMP bass head...
munkonthehill Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 out of curiosity,,,,whats the toggle switch for?
evilLordJuju Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 well the toggle is for the dimarzio model 1 - changes from single coil to humbucker IIRC. Note that this switch is not an extra hole - the old bass choke switch would have gone in there for the original wiring.
munkonthehill Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 ah nice one. Its cracking looking buddy.
evilLordJuju Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Just been playing it through an old WEM Dominator bass, and an old Ampeg B15. Sounds especially good in the single coil mode (I assume it's that) . I can make a video or some sound clips if anyone is interested.
axshack Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I have just finished rebuilding a 1964 version...I think it has gone very well, but had to use a modern Hipshot bridge as I lost the Ebay auction!!
evilLordJuju Posted March 25, 2012 Author Posted March 25, 2012 I'm considering trades now - vintage gear only - guitars, bass or amps. Preferably pre 1980 thanks
Icarus_147 Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 This this is beautiful, and I'd love to have it. Alas, it'll be a long time before I can afford it. Bump for pretty vintage-ness.
Steven Wayne Monchick Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 How much? And can you ship to the States?
evilLordJuju Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 yes I can ship to the states, but unless the exchange rate has changed massively of late, you'll be able to get one more cheaply in the US surely? Shipping would most likely be in the order of £100 with insurance
