discreet Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) Now I'm in a 9-piece soul band, I've got to say Donald 'Duck' Dunn. http://www.duckdunn.com/ Check him out on the Stax/Volt Tour of Norway, 1967: WARNING: Norwegian Hippy content! artisan Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 at the moment i'd say Al Gare (Imelda May) as i'm trying to play double bass. Quote
xilddx Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 As always, Scott Thunes. He is endlessly inspiring for me. Quote
mxm Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) ...I'm going through a Nine Inch Nails thing, mainly Justin Meldal-Johnsen ! Edited January 16, 2012 by mxm Quote
dmccombe7 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 My own personal taste I'd go for Fredrico Malaman posted recently by Funkettone on BC from Euro bass festival 2011. This guy has an incredible style, fluent and technical at same time yet very entertaining. From my band perspective covering classic rock i would have to say Bob Daisley. Has to be one of the best rock bassists ever. Dave Quote
dave_bass5 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Guy Pratt. I've finally got around to reading his book and am finding it quite inspiring. Also listening to Icehouse for the fisrt time because of it. Quote
hairyhaw Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Re-visiting a lot of old tunes by The Charlatans so at the moment I'd have to say Martin Blunt. Quote
shizznit Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Charlie Mingus at the moment. I own a lot of records that he has released or appeared on for years, but never really sat down to study him. I am not DB player, but I love his feel and I don't think you need to be a DB player to appreciate him. Really sexy and dirty style! Quote
Randy_Marsh Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Kyle O'Neil from Fireworks. A great and inspiring player considering his playing style... Quote
MusicJunkie Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012
Pino Palladino!
Quote

spongebob Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Gerry Mcavoy - playing like a bassman should! Quote
wombatboter Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Victor Wooten always inspires me...not that I'm anywhere in that region but just the idea that anything is possible. Quote
Sean Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Recently it's Stu Cook from Creedence, he's got a real swampy feel and it's been really easy to learn his stuff quickly. Quote
Jayben Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Stuart Zender, his days in Jamiroquai are absolutely awesome to me! Quote

ezbass Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 My new band is doing a fair bit of 80s material and I'm using my fretless more, so Pino is back front and centre for my inspiration (not that he was ever really away). Quote
JoshL Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Not sure what his name is but I'm still running through a lot of plan b stuff at the moment so the bassist for him along with the bassist in no doubt having just learnt its my life! Quote
Stu-khag Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Ashley Hutchings on Liege and Leaf by fairport convention is inspiring me at the moment. The drumming is pretty amazing as well. I wish I could find a band to lock in with like that! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1it7BP5PckI rediscovering Dead Meadow as well and wanting to play some filthy and grooving bass like that as well! This gig is great as well although he later complained the Marshall backline couldn't handle his aggressive picking technique and he was always breaking it. Along the same lines, I got Standing in the Shadows of Motown for Christmas so I'm a major Jamerson binge at the moment. Quote
