small ding in the neck

Just bought a bass second hand and its all good except the neck has a small ding in it behind the 3rd fret - about 5 mm long and 1 mm deep , so really its like a little indentation. It doesnt affect the playablility but I can feel it each time I play and in an ideal world I'd like it repaired but not having the money to do that either I repair it myself or I leave it. So I'm wondering how easy is it to repair, I was thinking either using a soldering iron and damp cloth to steam it out or using varnish to fill the dent and then sand that down till smooth.any Anyone got any ideas which method is better ?

Cheers

Halfords sell packs of assorted paper for a couple of quid. The finest grade will be in the region of 1500 or 2000 which will be fine for the final sanding.

There's a lot of information on the stewmac site on using superglue for guitar repairs.
