andydye
I've heard really good things about the rest of the VM range so I can't imagine this one being a dud but I'd look for someone who's got one to chip in here...

Cheers
Hi Alec (and welcome) These are well respected, as andydye says. Ive got the fretted version and its a very comfortable playable bass for the money. The only small thing to note is the pick ups arent that good. Took me a while to realise this. Its an easily upgraded. Heres a tip. If you hang around here long enough you'll probably get one for a good £100 less second hand. A
redstriper
I love these basses and having played 3 in different shops, I got a used one from this forum just before Christmas. It is superb and a definite keeper - there is absolutely nothing I would change about it. I have experimented with different strings and it can sound well Jacoey with rounds, but I prefer flats. But that's just my opinion and what suits me, may not suit you
Linus27
Great bass for a beginner to fretless.
Cygnus x-1
I've had the Squier fretless, but now have one of these:) http://www.dv247.com/guitars/vintage-icon-vj96-bass-guitar-distressed-sunset-sunburst--37370 personally I prefer the VJ96 from owning both basses. Emanew
When i started fretless (i mainly play FL) i bought a second hand Fender Japan. (In the shop i loved the look of this one precisely...) Almost 20 years later, i think it was a good choice : you play on a good Bass for half price, and only a litte more than a brand new cheap one. You loose much less reselling it. I hope it will help. Good groove

I liked them to begin with but Im thinking of changing them for a bit more oomph. Top of my list for pickups would be Wizard. Very reasonable price, very fast and personal service, very nice pickups and made in Wales. I might go for Thumpers in my VM. Oh and one more upgrade which again is not a must is going active. Ive got an Audere in my VM and a John East J-retro in my bitsa. Makes it all very versatile and interesting. But thats all in the future. Go get a VM and have fun. The mods can come later if needs be or your that way inclined http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/ A
