Dom in Dorset
I wasn'y buying strings but..... I hadn't done any serious bass playing for about five years,I'd been concentrating on folky stuff on bagpipes. I took my electric bass into a shop that's run by a friend of mine to see he'd sell it on my behalf. While I was waiting to see him I spotted an acoustic bass, picked it up , played it, kept playing until the man apeared , swapped my electric for the acoustic, left the shop. A month later I was thoroughly hooked on bass playing and had bought another electric, then I made a fretless , then....etc etc.

Matt P
well it wasn't a bass but i popped in to get a wall hanger to keep my acoustic on and ended up with a brand new McIlroy acoustic g****r, nearly 2 grands worth of walnut lovelyness, worth every penny. and i got the wall hanger too. RandomBass
I went into my local music store to try a few decent straps. Tried a few on a Fender Jazz, and well you can probably guess the rest of this sorry tale...
EmmettC
I only joined this site before christmas to see what it was all about, I've already bought a musicman stingray 5 and a compressor, and I have serious EBS GAS.

Great basses, definately punch above their weight. Edited January 20, 2012 by Lozz196
kingofthestuntmen
Sure I've told this story before... Went in for a set of strings, came out with the strings. And a job..! Guy I had gone to Uni with was working his notice and they were recruiting. Bit of a baptism of fire, though; I started a couple weeks before Christmas. Grand Wazoo
I only went to the Bass Gallery last year to try a compressor pedal and left with a Dingwall ABZ 5 strings. My gf was still alive then, when I got home she was over the moon and pointed at the other 8 basses and said, which one is going then? Cracking sense of humour she had, God bless her for ever. Mylkinut
Went in for a strap, came out with my '77 Precision. This was a while before 70s prices got silly, but it was still considerably more than the strap I was after (which I also forgot, had to go back the next day ). Very happy mistake
Dom in Dorset
Slightly OT but: I was working in a Wiltshire music shop when a car pulled up outside, in walked a familly from Wales who were on their way to Longleat for the day. They spotted the shop and thought they'd call in for a quick nose around before going on to the safari park. Before they left I'd sold them a grand paino.
