I wasn'y buying strings but.....
I hadn't done any serious bass playing for about five years,I'd been concentrating on folky stuff on bagpipes. I took my electric bass into a shop that's run by a friend of mine to see he'd sell it on my behalf. While I was waiting to see him I spotted an acoustic bass, picked it up , played it, kept playing until the man apeared , swapped my electric for the acoustic, left the shop.
A month later I was thoroughly hooked on bass playing and had bought another electric, then I made a fretless , then....etc etc.

Times we've heard that one.... only went in for some strings.... Fatal :D Having said that, I wouldn't mind a classic vibe precision to add to my herd, nice bass mmmmmm

Congrats on the new bass and welcome to the forum !

I only joined this site before christmas to see what it was all about, I've already bought a musicman stingray 5 and a compressor, and I have serious EBS GAS.

Well in theory you did get strings, they just happened to be fitted to a new bass

Congrats, I`ve got one of these - assuming it`s the 60s version? Great basses, definately punch above their weight.

Sure I've told this story before... Went in for a set of strings, came out with the strings. And a job..!

Guy I had gone to Uni with was working his notice and they were recruiting.

Bit of a baptism of fire, though; I started a couple weeks before Christmas.

I only went to the Bass Gallery last year to try a compressor pedal and left with a Dingwall ABZ 5 strings. My gf was still alive then, when I got home she was over the moon and pointed at the other 8 basses and said, which one is going then? Cracking sense of humour she had, God bless her for ever.

Went in for a strap, came out with my '77 Precision. This was a while before 70s prices got silly, but it was still considerably more than the strap I was after (which I also forgot, had to go back the next day ).

Very happy mistake :)

Slightly OT but:
I was working in a Wiltshire music shop when a car pulled up outside, in walked a familly from Wales who were on their way to Longleat for the day. They spotted the shop and thought they'd call in for a quick nose around before going on to the safari park.
Before they left I'd sold them a grand paino.
