dannybuoy
My first foray into 5ers was a Fender Precision V, but I didn't get on very well with the neck due to the width of the nut. Turns out the 5-string Fender Jazz has the same chunky neck unlike the skinny 4-strings. I then got a Yamaha BB415 which I find perfect for my hands with a relatively narrow 42mm nut width. I'm looking around for a 5-string Jazz bass with a similarly sized nut. Nothing stupidly expensive, something I can find for well under a grand used. Any ideas for me? LITTLEWING
Do yourself a favour, check out the Squier Vintage Modified 5 string with a 42mm nut. It's an incredible player and goes for around £272. I've had mine for 6 weeks and can't put it down, it's just so damn nice.
dannybuoy
Just checked it out and it's apparently 47.6mm just like the Fender Precision V. Thanks though, but I would still like to try one and will do if I see one in a shop!
LITTLEWING
Yeah, you're right, the nut is 47.6mm, I read somewhere it was 42mm. BUT just to confuse things, I just measured my neck after the nut and it's a comfy 45mm. All I know is, it's one beautiful player!! I got mine from Nevada in Portsmouth. JPJ
No dimensions, but I remember my old Fender Jazz DLX V ('96 anniversary model with all five tuners in a line) had a narrow nut width compared to my other 5 stringers
machinehead
G&L L2500. I think these use the same necks as the 4 strings on the 5 string version. Beautiful instruments at crazy low prices. Frank.
