Mog
I dont think you'll get what you're looking for out of a pedal. Something like an EBS valvedrive might get you in the ballpark but it wont be close. Most of those tones come from running heads very hot. phatkat
Im not looking for a perfect replica but just a decent overdrive that's a bit flexible...
bartelby
Have a look at DHA (Dave Hall Amps) stuff.
Marlat
I'd recommend one of the following: [sfx] Red Dragon BJFE Blueberry (if you can find one) or Fuzzrocious Dark Driving <-= probably the best pedals you can find for the Jack Bruce type sound FEA Labs Dual Band Distortion (way more flexible and covers every type of sound you could want). lxxwj
Check out Darkglass effects. Bit on the expensive side, but very felxible and I love the sound of their overdrive. Kinda aggressive, like Les Claypool's tone or something.
Pob
I second the Dark Driving. It's a quality thing
dannybuoy
DHA VT1, Xotix Bass BB Preamp, and Catalinbread SFT are my recommendations.
BB2000
Didn't Dan Armstrong put a pair of back to back germanium diodes in Jack Bruce's bass, with an in/out toggle switch? I did that 30 years ago with an overwound neck pickup when trying to sound like him.
