ras52
I was experimenting with foam under the bridge... I cut a rectangular cuboid from one of these: and got some quite nice sounds, but they're a bit squidgy and I'd call the effect "soft dampening" rather than "muting". What would you recommend for that real sixties thud? Cheers Richard

My preferences are mouse mat, or the stuff that goes underneath pickups, or a Mufler like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mufler-Bass-Guitar-Mute-Jazz-Sound-/130597126010?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e6831ff7a
Cat Burrito
I use cut up pieces from a mouse mat too. Sounds great to me
andydye
I've just added a piece cut from an old cot mattress and it sounds perfect!
dannybuoy
I just bought one of those 'Muflers' from eBay - hoping it'll do a better job than my mousemat! Ideally you want something that arcs with the varying height of the strings, not sure if this item does but will find out soon. I also enquired to the manufacturer of the Bassmute about prices and how to order etc but they never got back to me, then I found that cheapo Mufler and they may have lost a sale! SebCarr
I've seen old Jazz Bass mutes were felt, and looked like piano dampers. Sounded great.
MoonBassAlpha
You can buy felt stick-on discs for furniture used on wood/laminate floors. I would think they would be quite good. Cheap too!
