mentalextra Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 My 'bitza jazz' needs the bridge moving down just a smidge for the string spacing to be just right. It plays fine but it bugs me when I look at it. The amount it has to move is probably less than a screw hole width so I wondered if anyone has a tip for moving the bridge this small amount. I wondered if glueing a match in the existing holes would drop it enough or if the bridge screws would find their way back into the old holes again. The (stellah) bridge has completely different hole positions to the original and there are a lot of screw holes down there now. I feel that perhaps I should remove the bridge and fill all the holes and start again but this would be a major job and I dont want to get into refinishing the body as well. Help? Quote
icastle Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Using a match to fill the holes probably wouldn't work as they are too soft and the tension on the bridge would compress the match wood. You'd stand a much better chance of success if you used cocktail sticks and woodglue as they are much denser. Quote
pst62 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 One of these would probably sort that out without the need for too much arsing about! http://guitar-bridge...135061/Bass.htm Quote
mentalextra Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Wow yeah, the fancy 3D Schaller bridge would solve my problems but it would be cheaper to just buy a new guitar! Because I only need to move the bridge a very small amount, say 3/16th, I would not be able to drill new holes that close to the existing ones without filling and starting from scratch! Hmmph! Quote

mentalextra Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 OK, I will watch that and see where it ends up! Although, with all the holes under my bridge it's starting to look like a dart board Quote
