Chris2112 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Despite the fact that it takes a lot of work to be god-like slap player, this is a neat trick. I picked it up off Stuart Hamm's first instructional video years ago. Quote
chris_b Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 If you're going to learn slap put your effort into learning a basic riff not some trick that won't sound that good in a number anyway. If this is all you can play then don't slap in public until you've learnt something better than this. Quote
skidder652003 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 but ive been a slapper in public my whole life! Quote
ZMech Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Does anyone else suspect that he probably put the Bach and Realbook nicely propped up in view for some minor kudos? Then again, I might just be a cynic. Quote
shizznit Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'm not a proficient slap player, but I do okay. I will bust it out if 'asked'. It doesn't really form any significant part of my style and I never wanted to concentrate on that technique as religiously as a lot of players out there. I'm certinaly not on the same level as Mark King or Les Claypool! You need to have a very good inbuilt clock in your head as well as the fingering dexterity for that technique. One doesn't exist without the other, even for basic phrasing. You have to play with confidence because you can make yourself sound like a right t*t when you mess up! Cool lesson for beginners. Thanks for posting. Quote
Killerfridge Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I'm pretty certain that noteman is in fact Josh, and is just advertising (seeing as I've seen the username on multiple forums, and all they have ever posted are these videos) Quote
Pete Academy Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Probably the most pointless lesson ever. Quote
discreet Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 You can't practice while watching TV! It doesn't count! Quote
leftyhook Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 er.. I was doing that back in '84........then I put notes in there...........= a slap song.............then Mark King did it with great songs! Quote

Count Bassy Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I've no idea about his slap ideas, but he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously, and I found it quite entertaining. Good for him! Quote

(unlike me who has utterly failed at slap bass despite two people attempting to teach me, and both failing miserably, Both mystified as to why although I was seemingly doing what i was supposed to, I was still getting either a dull thud or a horrible twang!)
