Drum only backing tracks for doing covers.

Pretty much as the title says.

We're pondering using prerecorded drum backing tracks, mainly for practice at the moment as we're having some problems drummer wise.

I can't seem to find just the drums online they all come with bass as well.

Help much appreciated.

Buy a drum machine and program them?

That way you have full control of them.

Plus doing that will almost certainly guarantee a decent and reliable drummer will join the band just after you finish programming the bloody thing (has happened in 2 bands I've been in)!

You have to pay for the tracks, but you can select which instruments you want on the tracks so you would be able to just get the drum tracks. Also good for getting songs that your band wants to play in a different key!!

As I say the only down side is you have to pay for each track......

That's really neat! I can see that working really well for music-minus-one scenarios (strip out just your instrument). I clicked on the sample of "Like a Star" and could see there'd be a problem with just the drums, as they drop out for huge stretches, and you'd surely need at least a click in those passages.

OP didn't mention if he was doing originals or covers...

Anyway, my band did the drum machine route for ages. It worked quite well... I'm no drummer but I got a basic beat and a few variations and fills - just enough to mark the different sections - up using Hydrogen and kicked it off from a laptop in rehearsal.

It's for covers, we only need the drum part, although it could come in handy for keyboard parts, hmmm

I have thought about the drum machine route, I'm fairly certain we could programme an accurate beat. That'll be a separate thread

You can get hold of MiDi tracks for virtualy any cover for free. Use a MiDi search engine like VanBasco.
You can then remove all the other tracks and just leave the Drums.
There is plenty of free MiDi software that will let you do this. You can even convert to MP3 if you wish.
We use MiDi files for just that purpose in one band.
VanBasco do a free player that will allow you to do the remove bit, but you can's save it.

I hadn't seen this before, quite interesting. Had to laugh at the list of 'most popular' current backing tracks - after all these years it still has 'Sweet Home Alabama' 'Summer Of 69' 'Stuck in the Middle with You' and 'Brown Eyed Girl' on it. Some things never change!
