bubinga5 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) just saw an interesting topic... If you could have the best that Fender (vintage also) has to offer, or the best that Fodera has to offer... for the rest of your playing days. and you couldnt sell it either... what would you choose.. interesting to see Edited January 26, 2012 by bubinga5 Quote
Chris2112 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Fodera...Fender can't even hope to compete. Quote
BigRedX Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) Difficult... Fodera would probably win out on construction (do Fender make any basses without bolt-on necks?) Sound-wise a Fender would probably fit the kind of music I'm playing right now better. However from the PoV of looks there is nothing from either manufacturer that inspires me to want to play their instruments. Faced with the original criteria I'd probably go back to playing synth or guitar and picking something nice looking. Edited January 26, 2012 by BigRedX Quote
4 candles Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 unfair!!! depends on taste, if you are commisioning fodera to build to your spec choices are unlimited. i.e 4/5/6/7 string, thru neck, choice of pickups and preamp, facing woods fender would assign a master builder who would build you the perfect fender to your taste, but Iassume it would be a 4 or 5? precision/jazz or jaguar with stock pickups/electrics Me personally would buy a previously enjoted yamaha TRB5 for under £500!!!! Rick's Fine '52 Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 No brainer, Fender, every time. Unless I got cold, in which case the Fodera would probably burn longer. Quote
Sibob Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Fender! I've genuinely never played a Fodera where i've thought 'Wow this is sooooo much more amazing', gigged Fenders all my life and get great tone and super reliability. I did play Molan's early 90's (I think) Fodera though and that was cool! Si Quote
bassist_lewis Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Fodera Anthony Jackson Signature. Done! Quote
franzbassist Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I've recently come back to Fender basses after years playing boutique basses (Wal, Smith, Elrick). It's been like coming home, and I'd take a battered, mojo'd to hell year of birth 1966 J or P that played superbly over a Fodera that played superbly any day. Quote
RhysP Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I'd have the Fodera & swap it for a couple of Zons (you didn't say anything about not swapping!). Quote
OliverBlackman Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 depends on the gigs your doing. Really you need both so you can play jazz on the fodera and pop on the fender Quote
Truckstop Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I'd commission a 5 string Fodera P bass and use that for the rest of my life. Sorted! If that's against the rules, I'll go with the Fender. Truckstop Quote
funkypenguin Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Fodera Matt Garrison or AJ presentation contrabass Quote
Mylkinut Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 My one-of-a-million but one-in-a-million Fender, thanks. Quote
fender73 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Fodera for me I reckon, one of those Wooten ying yang jobbies would do the trick. Quote
Ed_S Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Fender every time. I'll hold my hands up and say I just had to browse round Fodera's website to get a flavour for what they do, but having done so, they are exactly the kind of thing I started playing Fenders to get away from. Quote
Machines Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Fender for me too - i'm afraid. Have seen a few Foderas up close and yes they are nice - but they just don't have any vibe for me. Quote
funkle Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Fender. You can take it anywhere, and no-one will look at you oddly. Everyone knows what to expect and what it sounds like. You do want the gig, don't you? Quote
4000 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I love the look of the Fodera Matt Garrison - probably my favourite singlecut design and one of my all-time faves regardless - but I've never played one. Based on the other Foderas I've played I'd choose a nice old P Bass (probably a lightweight early 70s one like my old one; I seem to prefer the necks), assuming I could still get on with the body contour; it's been a while now since I played one. I know the Jazz doesn't work for me (pain!) but of course the top countour is different. Of course if anyone wants to lend me an MG to check out it'll be gratefully received! Assuming I could get the MG to work for me that may be my first choice, but there are other basses out there I'd sooner have than either, unless the MG turns out to be significantly better (IMO) than the other Foderas I've tried; as individual basses of all types vary this is quite possible. charic Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I'd probably go "custom" fedora. As in new shape, new pickups, 6 or 7 strings, nice finish of my choice etc, I only say this because that way I would get exactly the instrument I wanted. Rather than what fender had to offer back in the 60's Quote
4000 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012
I'd probably go "custom" fedora.
For the Roger Glover look? Quote
